Good morning.

Got elected to the HOA board here yesterday.  Yay me?  First order of business is going to be a special assessment to get our financial situation in order and fix the landscaping issues.   [roll]

I was on my condo board and liked it.

Sorry to hear P ... I know what it feels, went thru it with my grandma, she would have great days ...

I am organizing a coup to topple the HOA here, ... one too many issues with the same issues ... And one of the board members suddenly is remodeling her house!!! AFAIK, she aint working full time ... Lotsa owners have noticed that too ... The company that maintains the gates, was replaced for another one that costs less but still no money to repair/replace one of the motors ...

Won't be nearly as interesting or salacious as what was happening at my other property.  [roll]

Background.  Five story building, 28 residential units, crossfit type gym & parking on level one, developer's office on level two + 4 residential units since developer was unable to lease as intended office space, residential units on 3-5 and rooftop deck.

Here's a sampling...

Place is LEED Platinum Certified and has a solar array for power.  Buried in the "solar addendum" at closing was verbiage that a sister company of the developer owns the solar array and the HOA agrees to purchase electricity at prevailing rates.

Developer owns multiple residential units in the building, including his residence.  Therefore basically controlling the HOA.  Most of his units are short term rentals.

Developer is/was dating one of the residents.  She was on the HOA board at the time.  Don't know/care what their current relationship status is.

I could never live somewhere that someone else had any control over my house.

It's a tradeoff.  The neighborhood where that place is at is one of the hottest in Denver right now.  But I know you're not a city guy either.

Honestly, I'm torn.  Some days I want remote living with a garden and no neighbors.  The others I want the hustle & bustle of the city.

Having a garden (even small raised beds at my last place) is the biggest thing I miss about condo/townhouse living.  At least in Denver they have community gardens, so I will need to apply for one when I move back there.
