Good Morning all. I'm dong a trial run on overnight boarding for Frances. I'll drop her off and then drive to Cleveland and spend the night. Museums, the Rock Hall, and a couple of breweries are on my to do list.

Good afternoon all. The short trip went well. Made it there and back on one tank of gas with a couple of gallons to spare.

408 miles total.

Hey all.   Catching up on DMF news.  Yeesh.   Howie, is Ellen doing better??   You?

Sorry Nate to see whatever's going on.

Been in a major funk here after having to put my pup to eternal sleep.   Feeling completely lost.

And I've learned that in my depths of despair, I cannot be left unattended because impulse decisions are made. Some ok, some not.

One not-so-ok decision was a day after he passed, acquaintances reached out through another big group I'm a part of.  This couple is respectable, he's a CPA, not sure what the Mrs does but they're nice and all like them.  Their ask was a dog sitter while they traveled to France to visit family.  One big dog.  I figured since I was insanely out of my mind at home alone, this would be perfect.  Their home is a 90 minute drive away in light traffic so I didn't get there to get the key and go over everything until the day of their departure.  (I've never been at their house.)

Oh. My. Gawd.  I couldn't back out at that point. It's not like they were going into the mtns for a long weekend and could rearrange their trip.

They left and soon after I high tailed it to a friend's in the area for cleaning supplies and rubber gloves and disinfectant and and and.

Plus, they pulled the bait and switch on me.  "Oh and you need to let the goats out in the morning, feed them and bring them back in in the evening".  Oh and watch out for the snakes.   make the beast with two backs me.  I'm on day 9 of 10-1/2 and just this morning I was on a work call sitting at their now clean kitchen island (at least the first 8 layers of crud was wiped free) and I looked up at the ceiling and there were hundreds of tiny red mite-type creatures all around the recessed light over the stove.

Half the house is condemned (tarp over the roof, windows blown out, junk and garbage everywhere I mean everywhere..... Neighbors have a junk yard of old rusty trailers, one lone swayback horse stuck in the middle of a tiny lot, a lot of smells....

Then the other day, someone's knocking at the door and wants to know about the pear tree at the end of the drive (the drive is broken concrete pieces and terra cotta tiles or something) - the tree is overgrown, the pears are mush with wasps everywhere and this guy is supposedly so intrigued by where "we" got it, how long have "we had it" he wants to plant one in his yard....  FFS....  Got rid of him but sleeping with both eyes open on a 100 y/o mattress that's like concrete.

Only redeeming aspect is the dog is a good girl.  Giant schnauzer.  One of the goats sounds like it's dying (can barely breathe - I emailed the guy and he said it's fine...they never see vets for their pets)..

Oddly and laughably I'll be at a fancy schmancy resort in Flori-duh on Monday for work.  Hopefully I'll get some sleep there.

That's my excuse for being AWOL out here.  I hope you've enjoyed my miserable Duc-Talk.   [beer]

Wow...makes my experience seem like a whole lot of nuthin'...it wasn't...really, but make the beast with two backs me...I'd put the owners out of my misery. ;D

"one and done" as the saying goes.
Maybe book an extra day or two at the resort to help clear your head?
