Winter, when you can throw the food in the garage for a few days.

Last ride on the 748 today.  Headed north for the day, then putting it up for the winter.  Monster will hang around for a little longer.
you storing in MA?

Yep, at my parents.  Saving the monster for another possible trip to VA over Thanksgiving.  Then it needs more work.  Valve check, belts, finish wheel bearings, possible suspension work.  I also have a sneaky suspicion that there is a small oil leak from the base of the vertical cylinder, but i don't really want to believe that yet.

More likely the breather on a 900.

Ya think?  How come?  That would be ALOT easier to deal with.  It is always a little wet at the rear base of the Vert Cylinder, forward of the breather.  And I am loosing about 1/2 a quart every 1500 miles, enough to know I am not imagining it.  I'm not burning oil.

I had the same thing on my 98.  Replaced the breather and it went away.

I didn't have the oil consumption though?  At that small amount it would be difficult to tell if you were burning oil.  When you do the valve check, grab the valves and see if it wiggles from side to side.

Because all the stock breathers leak? ;D

The older style crimped ones leak...the newer plastic ones leak, and the 900 was never known to have a base gasket issue. ;)

Morning Frank.

Thanks Architect, and the Oracle of the North speaks again.  Any recommendations on one that DOESN'T leak? any after market?  I could probably figure that out myself.

Tire pressure was 5lbs low this morning.  :P

My understanding is most of the aftermarket units don't leak. I recall an issue with one brand, that I can't remember, having an issue sealing to the case.

STM makes nice ones I hear. Pretty sure one of our sponsors will have just what you're looking for. ;)

I can't have a local craftsman whittle one out of wood?

Well time to get going.  The road awaits, and possibly hypothermia.

Have  a good day DP.  Staying on the other side of the state today.  Lunch in Conway.
Out.
