It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

i realized the other day that i have been here far too long. though i still hate cold, my tolerance has increased greatly. i have been outside in just a long sleeve t-shirt with a short sleve over it, jeans, and my dirt gloves to shovel.

i get a bit chilly sometimes, but if i'm working  then i'm fine.

wtf is wrong with me?
Life, alas is very drear. Up with the glass and down with the beer!

My DC friends have all gotten tired of hearing it, so I'll start in on you guys -- my very best memories of DC were in the three 18"-24" snowfalls that we got in the twenty years I lived there. XC skiing on the Capitol Mall -- including the time in '87 when the whole federal government was shut down except, inexplicably, the Botanical Gardens near the foot of Capitol Hill. We kicked off our skis and went into the Palm Room and were surrounded by 85 degrees, palm trees and orchids. Beautiful and surreal. Or the years when I owned that 1973 Land Cruiser and I'd spend my days shuttling nurses & doctors to the area hospitals or doing food deliveries for an outfit called Food and Friends that did meals for people homebound with HIV/AIDS. One year, they linked me up with news crew from Channel 8 and I was on the "GET THE LATEST ON NEWS CHANNEL 8 ON SNOW TERROR IN THE STREETS RUN FOR YOUR LIVES IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!!!" news promo that they ran several times an hour for days, my truck smashing dramatically straight at the camera through a snowplow berm (the producer had a huge smile on her face after she got that shot...)

Snowpocalypse? More like Snowparadise, if you ask me. Which I know you didn't.

It is a tad inconvenient, but otherwise I feel the same way.  Slows this city down in a nice way.  I haven't interacted with my neighbors this much since I moved in 9 years ago.  There is another 10-20 headed here overnight and the odds are pretty good that I'll lose power again, but we are ready.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. H. L. Mencken

Tried that little trick. No worky.

I was on Weight Gainer for about 3 months, and lost 4 lbs. Fastest metabolism ever.

We tried making Vietnamese Sugar Cane Shrimp (Chao Tom) last night with mixed but yummy results. Tonight is full of meetings, so it's spaghetti & sauce out of a bottle. Maybe  [wine] would help.

I'm 5'10", 125 lbs.

Yes.  :o

Reminds me of Sgt. Goforth.  He was in my shop and was about 6 feet tall and weighed in at about 120.  He put shot bags in his pants for the annual Air Force weigh in.  While shoveling snow one winter day a big wind blew him down past the shop windows.  We all laughed so hard that our morning coffee came flying out our noses.

Lucky is indeed a happy thing when you can stumble across it in life and recognize you have it.
