What's the prognosis from here? Any chance that this will be the last major surgery?

With the sheer scale of this surgery, we are hoping Physical Therapy will be able to handle the rest of it. She's had Botox injections to loosen the muscle, and a number of smaller surgeries to try to tweak them right. When that didn't work, they decided to do this one. (which, from what I understand, is the Big Daddy.)

Good to see she is back home  [thumbsup]

anyone ever changed the oil in a lexus RX300?

I can't imagine it would be different than any other SUV.

Filter underneath, drop the oil, pull filter and replace, add oil, call it a day.

Just trying to figure out why Lexus wants like 110$ for an oil change.

Just don't want to miss something in there. I checked the manual and not much info to be had. Shocking, right?

$30 for the oil change

$80 for the tech and facility/overhead

A local tire shop will do a full synthetic change for 56$.

Just did some reading on how to do the change.

You have to unbolt some cover and inside there is the drain plug.

Filter cartridge right next to it.

Drop oil. re-assemble. Add oil.

Gotta figure out the cost of the parts and oil disposal verse what it would cost at the tire shop.

My guess it is a damn near wash.

There's the value of knowing it's been done right. We always gave those jobs to the hungover shop flunky, and when he cross threads something, they ain't going to admit it.

I take it to a good shop.

My Jetta has been getting routine oil changes at this shop for 6.5 years.

The only annoying part is when they try to tell me I have all these broken parts that will cost me 4,000$ to repair when I know the car is in good condition.

But........that is how they make their money.

How do you know they're not broken?

And you still missed my point-I worked in a good shop. We put the idiots on the oil changes and other such things, because it was the easiest thing we did. If we were busy, the guy who was hired to sweep the floor and take out trash learned how to do oil changes.

I wouldn't trust any of them, ever, for anything.

You say "good shop" yet at the same time get the feeling that they are trying to cheat you.
I'll give you an example of a good shop, I have a guy that I'll bring stuff to if I don't have the time to do it myself or if it is a big enough deal that I'm not properly equipped to tackle. He's called me up tell me that what I thought might be wrong with the car wasn't and because no real work was done there was no charge. He also only charged me $100 when I thought I toasted a cylinder which in fact was just one of the plug tips broke off and was rattling around in the cylinder. He fished out the pieces and replaced the plug. Sounds likely that your shop would've claimed that they had the pull the head and charged accordingly.
