Thanks for that. [bang]
I have a similar boat sitting here as you.
I never got around to doing the foundation for my garage wall and now I'm not going to bother until the spring.
That probably isn't an option for you.  :P

Nope...

the bastid's name is Mike...

and right after he pours my slab and just before he hands me the bill I'll tell him what I think of him blowing me off for 10 days and pouring this slab under the worst possible conditions when he had nice weather all last week.

Once the crete is poured and kicks it will make its' own heat for a bit. I'll most likely cover it for a few days before we start framing.

Those temps won't bother it.

I know, but in my mind it cures better with the temp not dipping down below freezing. That's probably just an incorrect thought that would have me paranoid and waiting for problems to arise even if they never did.

Just wire-up the underslab heating and throw the switch to "tropical"  [thumbsup].

Easy.

Or you could get Tom, Frank or Mike to throw a little calcium chloride in the mix to stop it freezing  :).

Or..... it might be summer.

By the time he shows up  ;D

Frankly.....

It's morning and our winter weather is outta here (for the time being).  Nothing else that is of any significance to say.  Maybe after more java & a dog walk...

My understanding is a concrete slab poured in cold weather cures better, albeit more slowly, because the top and bottom cure at a more uniform rate.

In hot weather the bottom cures very slowly compared to the top which is exposed to the sun.

My concern is he wants to use calcium to get the concrete to kick so he can finish it. I understand his concern because of the low temps. I'm not really worried about the corrosion because it will take a very long time to destroy the reinforcing wire, and there is no other metal involved.

Calcium can cause issues with the way I want to color the slab. If I can't get the etching stain to take I'll be forced to rough up the surface and paint. I don't want that.

I should have waited until next spring... :-\
