Bought a house.

Hopefully this one sells or else I'll have too many.

so...sorry I haven't posted in a while....life has been an unpredictable train over the last month....so I apologize for this rather blog like long-ish rant of expression of what is bouncing about in my head....

here goes, so the beginning of last month, we started operating under new ownership. simple right? well, the new G.M. has been surveying the various departments with his C.B.A. eye with an attitude of "if you aren't making me money, then you are costing me money". I think this is because the last dealership he was at for 10+ years, he wanted to buy in and they wouldn't let him, so the new owners of our dealership decided to take him up on his offer. Because if his personal "skin in the game" he is probably looking for the fastest ROI among other things. It seems like he knows very little of the fixed ops side of the business, but is not letting that stop him. sometimes you have down time in the ebbs and flows between busy spells, especially when you are a boutique brand or single product line dealer. the new management/ownership was not being very forthcoming and open with any operational changes, so we would seemingly have a new surprise sprung on us every other day practically. the only exceptions to that have been when certain situations forced some level of inclusion like a shot over the bow of their ship to say "HEY!". I fired one of those types of shots at the new G.M. with enough reasoning behind it that he actually listened rather then gloss over or past it. Still, the winds of change have been upon us.

The G.M. hasn't also been fully communicative with people in the current regime/scheme of things and I find out why. He is looking to make changes. Some of those changes I had originally thought would be putting me in a situation I am not exactly comfortable with( moving me to an alternate location that would add a pain in the ass 30 more miles each way to my commute).  He comes to me a few times asking me sidebar questions in a back door secretive planning kind of way. Some of these I felt like they were putting me in a potential bad spot kind of way. They are because they were clearly not including my boss, who while not young and not dumb, is also not aggressive enough for the viewpoint and profile they seemingly are directing at going.  He asked me about my aspirations in terms of position among others, and while I fully admitted that I was interested, I also was quite frank with him about not have certain tools/capabilities/abilities that my boss does in fact have, and he has them in spades. He has a very easy flow attitude and gets things done with low resistance. His work nature has led to us also having a personal relationship as friends outside of the dealership. This is where things get sticky, as the G.M. made statements alluding to me possibly replacing him in the near future.

I am off work today at home, as a part of our new schedule with being open for business on Saturdays ( which we weren't before because it was determined that for the loss of money to be open versus the quality of life for everyone, that it didn't make sense, even as a loss leader). We are not going into an extra incentive for that 6th day, nor are we going to go into an overtime aspect, so we still work 5 days, just have to take one off in the middle of the week. Today is that day for me in the rotation of Saturdays, so I am not in. This was an unplanned for hiccup in the G.M.'s plan, as he was apparently planning on making a major change and called me on my cell at home to give me a brief head up about what it going to happen tomorrow. Supposedly he is relieving my boss of command and handing the reins to me, as he said that I am the future of this company and wants me on board to make that future happen.

My problems with this start with how I feel bad for knowing my boss is out, and move to a certain distrust of the G.M. which is a part of the issue. I know that as a manager of any type in a dealership, you are more expendable than any other person. You can be the hero, or the sacrificial lamb. That is a bit discomforting, especially when you get the very clear impression that your direct overseer will work the back door behind your back if he doesn't get what he wants or wants something different than what he thinks you can provide to him. I am nervous to say the least, but also wary. This new position will keep me very busy and perhaps offline for a while, if even only in the adjustment phase. So that is just a tip of the iceberg on what and why with me as of late.....
