South of Denver. Prolly through Texas and then through New Mexico to Cali.

I-40 and Albacracky are still easy to get to - especially when there is pie involved.  ;D
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

6 days?!?!?!?  Where are you coming from, Greenland?  I've done a kamikazi run from Abq to Detroit (2 drivers) in 26 hours!  If you take a rental truck (spd governed at 65) then it takes two days to do 1700-ish miles.  6 if you're stopping for photos, tourist trap stuff but it can be done quicker.  My advice?  Keep a log on your budget.  You can end up going through cash faster then you might think...

I'm hoping that we'll have time to sight see (if we do, White sands is on the list), but Mother seems to think its gonna take 6 solid days of driving. Eeek!!!

I'm betting we make three days before we try to kill each other.  [laugh]

When we moved from NY to CA, it took us 4 days.

Night 1 in Knoxville area

Night 2 in Dallas

Night 3 in New Mexico

Night 4 in Barstow cause we stopped to see South rim of the Gran Canyon ;D

We were travelling with our dog and rabbit, and kept them on their feeding/bathroom schedules and never really felt rushed.

Oh this will be as cheap a trip as we can make it.  [thumbsup]

Yeah, I dunno about the 6 days. I wanna be able to sleep in a bed at nite so I think it'll take us about 4-5. We'll see, I've never driven across the country but he has.  :-\

KnightofNi

have fun planning the move j-bub.

if you are taking 6 days to drive cross country then you should be able to hit plenty of touristy things.

i can see it taking 3 days if you drive straight through without any rush at all, but you should be able to make the midwest by the end of day 1 if you put your head down and go.
Life, alas is very drear. Up with the glass and down with the beer!

Cutting costs?  Try the DMF lodging option.  It works like this:
1) Figure a rough route not including touristy things that are too far off the route.
2) pin down dates
3) contact folks in the areas where you'll be stopping at night by looking through the local boards
4) post up needing a place to crash for a night
5) after you find a place, meet other locals for dinner
6) make new friends!

6 days because...

1) I have driven cross country 4 times

2) I am a vampire and cannot spend too much time in daylight

3) there will be <details deleted for the sake of the children> at every opportunity...and that takes time when done correctly
