3 transmissions in 17K miles on my '04 F150.  [roll]

Nakid. Congrats...the sales tax is tax deductible too. Hooray that I waited until 01-02-2009 to purchase.

sounds like user error...

No kidding.  I just replaced the transmission, in my Chevy, at 193,500 miles.

Toureg:

Everyone in my family has spent time driving it.

Consistently it gets shit gas mileage.

RX300:

I am a light driver, all city.

I am not hard on gas, acceleration, etc.

I am currently getting 13.7mpg for city driving.

I'm not really concerned if you buy it or not, I really have no reason to lie about it...

AVERAGE fuel economy in the Touareg in OUR experience is in the high 13's...

that's good then, you are beating fueleconomy.gov numbers  [thumbsup]

My buddy had an Audi Q7 with the V8.  He got 13ish commuting from Brooklyn to the Bronx and 17ish going to the country house in the Berkshires.

I noticed the Toureg gets different mileage depending on octane used.

I wonder if additives for different regions play a factor?

Here in CA, the summer blend gas makes the mileage fall off pretty noticeably. I don't know about other ones, but I can say that at least in one case it does.

That truck is freakin enormous.

On the Touareg tip, a cohort of mine is a vw master tech and loathed those things for years. Yours is new, so it's a different story he says, but the first few years they were in the shop incessantly, and terrible to work on.
He also shared with me that the name is from a nomadic tribe with the highest STD infection rate in the world.  ???  [laugh]

The 04-05 Touaregs have a pretty bad rap, for good reason. They released it with a lot of problems that took a while to work out. 07 really started the "good" Touareg's.

Jud, you can't really compare your RX300 to a Touareg. You have a V6, but also, the RX weighs about 1600lbs less so that's bound to have some influence. The AWD setup in the RX is nothing like the 4XMotion of the Touareg...

As far as the size of my truck, I have 2 kids and looked at smaller trucks. Just not feasible. I do use my truck for quite a bit of personal hauling. Plus the fact that I am in the military and do move quite a bit, I need something I can put my bike in the back of. I WILL NOT let the miitary move my bike. Is it overkill? Maybe. Could I get by with less? Maybe. But what happens when I need the room? With this truck, I have it. It's not like I'm complaining about how much gas costs for it. I knew what I was getting into when I bought it. Plus, it gets very similar mileage to the truck I replaced...

Hmm, put it in drive, push gas pedal, push brake pedal, put in park. Not to mention zero problems ever with any vehicle transmission for the past 22 years of vehicle (truck, car, boat, moto) use. I'm gonna go with....POS.

What is your truck getting?

New truck is doing low to mid 13's so far, a little less in 4WD...

How big is the tank?

I should have amended that to say AT LEAST a V8.

Hypothetically, if I were the owner of a truck like this and were to drive it to work, it would cost me approx. $166.00 in fuel every week. That's only if it was driven to & from work.
