So the bike is still fairly new with about 1300 miles on her... I live in texas and get to ride it fairly often since I bought her do to the nice weather.   Just today I turned it on.  put my gear on and rode to the end of my street and she died....  ??? so i started her back up, and took off to hit up a starbucks with one of my friends... sat there for about 20 mins.  when I left riding down the service road about a 1/4 mile it died again while idling down threw the rpms (engine braking) from 50mph down to 30 or so...    ???    Push the button and she starts right back up and road fine back to the house...?

Any ideas?

Make sure all four plugs are plugged in and clean the battery posts. Although if the girls just dying but the clusters still alive it's prolly ignition.  If fuel runs dry usually you get a ramp up in rpms before the bike dies.

That's what mine did when the valve guides went bad...... random stalling & losing revs between shifts.... annoying thing was it didn't do it all the time...... & never when I took it to the dealer [laugh]

ShiftSix

even with only 1300 miles on her?

mine did it often before the 7500 valve adjustment.  but the guides were fine.

I had a similar problem with mine, stalling at lights or whenever I would let it idle.  In my case the battery wouldn't have enough juice to start the beast back up.  It turned out to be a loose/fried connection from the regulator to the battery.  Not only was I losing juice to the battery to charge it, the FI or fuel pump didn't get enough power and would just stop working.  I've got about 2000 miles without a problem since I repaired the fried connector.

Pull off your seat and raise the tank, and reseat every connector you can get your hands on.  That's how I eventually found my problem.

because the bike is so new I shouldnt be charged anything if i took it in to ducati for them to check it out right?

Well...  That's the idea....  But you may get suprised...

SpeedDog, whats the idle rpm sposed to be?  Mine has one in gear idle and another lower neutral idle.  Doesn't seem to be a problem though

the lower idle in gearmight be due to the clutch slipping (old fluid?) when you throw it in gear its slipping the clutch and the rpms drop becasue teh wheel isnt spinning.

My bike likes to hang while in clutched in, and in gear, around 2,000rpm, when i drop it back into neutral it goes back to 1100ish.  ??? only happened after i added the rapidbike 3 unit though.

ShiftSix

none of that sounds familiar...  basically I have only seen it happen 4 times now and all has happened before the bike got up to say 150degrees...   I road first to the end of my short street and when I pulled the clutch in it died...     Then when I left starbucks I ripped on her a bit 2nd-4th and when I rolled off the throttle in 4th it died again...   ??  push the button and she starts right back up and rode fine for the rest of the day.

I still think you should go through all of your connections.

On my SV I had something similar happen.  she'd run fine, everything great, but once warmed up the motor would cut out.  Start right back up to.  ended up on that particular bike there was a plug that tended to cook off after 20K miles.  Mine lasted 30K+ but it did go.

Another note.  Only do one "fix" at a time.  So you know what makes it better, or what makes it worse....  And just go ahead and replace the plugs.  It's not like they are Ducati priced.  What $2 each?

yeah, but the bike has 1300 miles on her... I wouldnt think its the plugs  maybe if it had 13,000 miles on her no prob. but not this early... Im going to ride it to work tomorrow and go over some stuff, if it keeps it up its going back to ams on friday.

Smokescreen

I'd agree that it's unlikely the plugs have been worn out, but it's possible one or more have gone bad.  Mostly if you are running platinums or the like.

with that few miles though?  and replacing the plugs for him will be closer to $4-5, x 4.
