Oregon Arsonist Targeting 1990s Green Ford Escorts

Tuesday, March 03, 2009

MEDFORD, Ore. â€"  An arsonist is on the prowl in Medford for green Ford Escorts from the 1990s.

Three of them have been burned in recent weeks, a series that Medford police Sgt. Mike Budreau describes as "pretty bizarre."

A 1995 green Ford Escort was destroyed by flames early Sunday morning after someone broke a window and poured flammable liquid into it. A similar fire was set in a 1993 green Ford Escort parked in a driveway on Feb. 22.

Investigators have also uncovered a Feb. 2 case of a 1992 green Ford Escort damaged by a plastic container filled with flammable liquid placed next to a tire that burned without setting the car afire.

Budreau told the Mail Tribune newspaper in Medford, "I think this person really doesn't like Ford Escorts."

How many green ford escorts could there possibly be in Medford?

80k or so people, I think he's torched 'em all.  ???

Sucks for the owners of the cars but its actually kind of amusing. Some poor guy probably lost his girlfriend to someone who drove a green escort. Wonder why he hates those cars being that they are so insignificant.

It'd save him trouble if he hated the focus. Those things used to set themselves on fire  [laugh]

Can you really blame anyone for burning Ford Escorts?

I drove...and crashed them. ;)

The 1600 pushrod car was a nice little car.

No-the early focus did it too. Along with random airbag deployments, and other interesting problems.

We had a Fiesta with the 1300cc pushrod engine.  I could not decide whether it was one of the world's worst good cars or one of thew world's best bad cars.  I had to put a tach on it because it was always running out of speedometer.  The car had no torque steer and handled great even though there was so much body flex I pressure cracked the windshield going around a corner.

If I remember correctly, quite a few Fords from around MY 2000 had problems with catching fire. Something to due with the cruise control circuitry shorting itself. Apparently the car could be at rest in your garage for days and then just go poof. There was a recall on some of em.

Don't know about that, but I had a 1980 Mercury Bobcat with the 2300cc OHC 4 banger and a 4 speed.

The original models had a 1.6 pushrod or a 2.0 OHC.

The 2.3 was an improvement.... [roll]
