OK, I am just about to pull the trigger and drop my beloved Termis, but need to tie up a couple of floating questions first.  Here is my plan.  I want to drop my exhaust past the DP midpipes (losing the cans and connecting S pipes).  My exhaust is not the system that replaces the ECU, so my bike still has the stock one.  I have found a custom shop to make some tips to slip on and then I am going to have the entire system Coated black (JetHot).  My questions are:

1) Do I need to create any backpressure? ( I researched a couple of sights that led me to believe it was as easy as mounting a shaft through the exhaust tip with a washer attached. )

2) Passing inspection? (anyone from NC) Can it pass without the cans?

3) Any issues I might run into that I don't know about?

I am not a master mechanic, but I don't feel this is out of my range.  I just don't want to FUBAR my current exhaust system trying to get creative and I SURE don't want to damage my bike or or what performance it has.  Any answers / advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thx

You're going to want to put some kind of baffle in it otherwise it's going to be VERY loud. And I don't mean that in a good way. It will sound more like a Harley than a Duc.
When I had my shorties on my bike I installed a 2" baffle facing into the header outlet. It was a bad idea as it created too much backpressure and caused me to lose power. You going to have to find a happy medium.

You should contact Mark at Motocreations and get a set of boomtubes and be done with it. I'm not exactly sure what he gets for them but I'm sure you could sell off your Termi slipons and pick up an set and still have the money left over for me to reflash your ECU. That way you'd have it all done right.

What kind of bike do you have?

The boomtubes are nice, sound great, and are very well priced.  I have gone back and forth on just buying a set and be done with it, like you suggested, but I really like the way that the front pipe from DP angles back as opposed to droppong straight down from the head and I would rather my exhaust still point backwards instead of out to the right.  Kind of the same angle as the short exhaust.  Maybe I am just stubborn, or just love seeing my bike strung all across the garage while I sit in the corner going  bang head .  Who knows.  Anyway, I was looking into the BigCityThunder baffles and having a custom shop make a set of extended tips that would accommodate them and fit onto where my  S pipes mounted to the DP pipes.  It seems to me that as long as the diameters are right, they should clamp on the same way.
They might end up being loud, but I live 10 minutes from the 2nd biggest Harley dealer in the states, so making noise would fit right in.  As far as neighbors go, Fatboy on the left and a cored Suzuki Raider on the right.  I would fit right in.

I too have been tossing the idea around of a set of BoomTubes for my S2R1K, or going with a custom set of pipes. My biggest thing is the computer/tuning side of it. A good buddy of mine owns a chassis shop thwat does high dollar race cars all day, so having him fab me up a exhaust to my spec isnt an issue. The issue is having the bike tuned to actually run well with whatever exhaust I come up with. Still cant get myself to dump $1000+ for a stupid DP ECU.

So for now I am running the open udder with a FATDUC and the bike runs fine. Let me know what you come up with my man...

No reason to spend that much on a DP ECU. Just send it to me for a reflash. It's much cheaper.  Grin

Once I pick out an exhaust I will be getting ahold of you for sure...
