i realized something that we ducati owners in a way are stupid bc we answer the classic question "what type of bike is that?" WRONG...

when that question is asked we immediately respond with the "manufacturer" not the "type" or "model of the bike" so we should be answering like "monster 620, monster s4rs, 748, 999, etc".

afterall if you are riding a honda cbr 600, or a yamah r1, someone asks what bike that is you say "a cbr 600 rr, an r1". .

then the follow uyp question of "who makes that?" is actually a logical question...  ie, "ducati makes it" or "honda" or "yamaha"

see basically we are answering the first question wrong, by giving the manufacturer not hte model.

so next time someone asks what type of bike it is, give the model name, then when they ask the inevitable "who makes that? or is that japanese?" then you can answer "ducati, its an italian bike" and it won't seem so stupid the questioning.

I take it on faith that the person asking can read my fairings. Seeing as Ducati printed it nice and neat and readable.

(see first image in montage below)

well your bike has the manufacturer and the model number on it,.. but as you know most people with monsters replace the side pods thus no more "model number" markings are on the bike, ie, monster 620, monster s2r 800, monster s4r, monster s4rs and those are all convenienctly placed on the side pods so that when you are on the bike they are covered by your leg.

besides you should know that just because your bike may have on its side in really large letters/numbers "DUCATI ST4S, OR DUCATI 999S"   someone will always ask, "hey what model is that bike?".. ie, ST4s... "hey who makes that?"... ie, DUCATI.. "that's japanese right, like a yamaha?".. ie.. its italian.. "yeah like a suzuki right?"   ie. uuhhh, yeah you got that right, then ride away.

Went to dinner and had my key on the table.  The guy at the table next to me said "excuse me.  what kind of key is that" and I replied "it's to my Ducati".  Maybe he was interested in more than the bike and just wanted to talk but he came back with "do your really ride one or do you just have a key"?   ??

I had my bike for 3 days when a guy at a gas station saw me with my helmet and asks "What the hell kind of bike do you ride?" ... he was obviously intoxicated... I said it's the black one back there, to which he ran, literally ran outside, and I was right on his heels to see what he was doing.  He looked at it and goes "Ducati? Is it fast?"  I said "Yeah...faster than I can run"  He then told me "Do you know how easy I could have stolen this?"  I replied "I don't know, but you wouldn't have gotten far, you drunk."  He tried to start some trouble with me and I laughed so hard... I don't go to that gas station anymore subsequently.

Had a Numb nut the other day at work, My S2R 800 sits just outside the Main entrance of the Store, about 20 feet from Where I work, Numb nut stops, looks, wanders around for a while, comes inside and ask's me who owns the Bike.

Me: thats mine.
NN: Wow, Very nice, What Size Engine
Me: 800
NN: Can't be, Ducati don't make an 800
Me: It's an 800, that's it model number
NN: No, Model number can mean anything, You must be wrong, Ducati have never made an 800.
ME: It is, It's registered and Insured as an 800, It says 800 in the Brochure, the Manual and the Compliance plate.
NN: No, Ducati never made an 800 (Gives me a very Stern look)
ME: it is an 800, your wrong, Besides Casey Stoners MotoGP bike is an 800, Ducati made the 800 Supersport.
NN: (Loudly) You are wrong!! Your just being a smart ass!!
Me: And you Sir, are an Oxygen thieving make the beast with two backswit. (Said with a smile)

Scary part is, This Guys works for a large Motorbike Dealership about 4 doors down from our store,
He's one of the spare parts guys (Thankfully they don't deal with Ducati)

"Do you know how easy I could have stolen this?"

That little blinking light would have given you some problems first, haus.
Followed by, "Do you know how easily I can bust out your teeth?"  Then slam in the face with the bike helmet.  Thieving isn't funny.

-That's yours?!?!

me: "yeah"

him: "Looks like fun! Are you gonna put leather saddlebags on it??"

me:  ummmmm................................................no.

"Why can't I wear yours?"

The first question everyone says after I turn them down for a ride due to a lack of a second helmet.

My favorite that i always get with the 1098, which im sure most sport bikes get is this

Guy to the right of me while stopped at a light.  He rolls down his window to tell me "Hey your headlight is out!"  Referring to the fact that the low beam is only one light.  I get this on a regular basis and got into an argument at a gas station with some guy in a mustang that it was supposed to be like that.

I usually respond with no its supposed to be like that and flick the high beams a bit.  I need a wittier comment. bang head

How about  "looks like your high beams are burnt out as well  Roll Eyes"

Don't forget the eye roll that holds it all together.

I was in a drug store in Port Huron Michigan yesterday.  The store was literally a two minutes drive/ride from the bridge to Ontario.  I set my helmet on the counter while I got my Visa out to pay.

clerk - "Did you ride your motorcycle from Canada?!"
me - "uhh...it's not very far away."
clerk - "Ya...but you have to go over a bridge!"

Immediately I knew I had something to post here.
