I love Defenders especially in white.  Why did they stop selling them here?  You're a lucky man.
There is no way to fit SRS in a Defender due to the strength of that chassis. So after 1997, no more NAS Defenders unless the GVWR was greater than 8,500 lbs. which is, or was, the DOT cut-off. The Brand Manager who had done the Wagon with me was in Gaydon by then as liason to BMW. He did come up with a 110 HCPU crew cab which with a 130 axle could meet the spec, but with that springing the rear suspension was essentially rigid unless you carried 1,000+ lbs in the bed. We gave up. Cruel irony, the 110 crew cab with normal 110 springs became hugely successful in Europe. Still is with hunters/shooters with dogs.

More than you wanted to know? I could go on and on and on...  ;) Mine was the first white wagon in the U.S. #021/500. J.P. Slavin also used to say, "Land Rovers are white". We have good taste... :) :) :)

Yeah, I'm intrigued by that muffler, I like it.  Care to elaborate on that thing?

Nice dark  [beer]

stopintime

If I'm not mistaken, that's the 'stubby' or 'shorty' Termignoni without it's carbon sleeve.

Looks good [thumbsup]

Thanks guys  [thumbsup]

stopintime is correct, it's the stubby Termi with a Marving mid pipe. I just took the carbon sleeve off to see what it looked like at first and ended up liking it. It looks kinda Mad Max-ish!

It's still a little too dirty for me though, I wanna have someone break the welds and redo it a bit cleaner. Termi probably didn't care too much about aesthetics since it was supposed to be under a sleeve anyway. And I wanna have the tabs that hold the carbon sleeve removed, you can barely see them in the pic but they're on the top and bottom of the pipes right before the silencer.

Mainly because of safety the us motor vehicle people wanted land rover to fit air bags to the defender land rover said no it was an agricultural vehicle and at the time tractors didn't have air bags fitted so they were banned in the us your loss.

Have you thought about making, say, an aluminum sleeve for it?

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

I haven't, but the carbon sleeve that it came with is essentially the same idea. The problem is, in order to get to the pressure clamps (to remove the silencer in order to remove the tire) the sleeve has to be able to come off which means it has to be left open on the mid pipe end and it just doesn't 'flow' well aesthetically to me. The mid pipe just ends up going right in to the open end of the carbon slip on.

The sleeve on the stubby Termi was basically made to contour the udder which I wanted as far away from my bike as possible!  [laugh]

I like the look of the silencer without the sleeve but the welds are horrible since they were meant to be covered.

I was actually thinking about an aluminum sleeve the exact same size as the can that's on there now, essentially making it look like a REALLY chopped-down stock-ish muffler. You'd keep access to the pressure clamps, and save the trouble of cutting and re-welding.

And you mean to end the sleeve right before the pressure clamps? If I'm picturing what you are then no, I haven't thought of that until now. I kinda like it, maybe I can extend the sleeve a little in the other direction as well so the exhaust exit part isn't so long either. There's a place around the corner from my house that does sheet metal work too!! Maybe I can get them to give me some scrap aluminum for little or no money!   [thumbsup]

Thanks Buckethead!!  [thumbsup]

Or you could end the sleeve at the end of the can - like the old aluminum sleeve on the DSS Monster stock exhausts - just to cover the crappy welds and make it look uniform.

Happy to help!

DarkMonster620

just a thought ... leave a gap between the can and the sleeve for cooling ???

as air goes thru when riding the outer sleeve wouldn't be so hot so that when you stop somewhere either you or someone gets a nasty burn due to the can being hot ... jsut sayin'
