Does the Immobilizer "tick"?

I have a S2R that gets power but won't start! Once I turn the key (red or black) there is a "clicking" right next to the battery at the relays. I switched the relays from my working bike & the same thing happens. Lights, power, "clicking" & it won't start... Is that the immobilizer?
The speedometer was smashed up & I put a replacement one from ebay (from same year & model) or if I hook up the smashed up one it makes the same "ticking"... Has anyone seen this before?

You got screwed.  Sorry but it is the truth.  You should have researched here a bit first.  The immobilizer is in the gauges so your ebay stuff is not going to work.  IF the gauges were brand new (never installed on another bike) then the dealer can mate the gauges to the ecu with the red key and it will work.  If it has been used on another bike then you just lost your money.

Best solution if it is a used set of gauges is to look on here for the guy who resets the immobilizer he might be able to help.  Or if you get the DP ecu you might be able to make it work but I am not sure.

Yeah, didn't finish my coffee yet.  The puzzling thing is there should be no clicking either.  Since there is a click I would try boosting from a good battery, long shot, but worth a try.  If the used gauges were never married it might work.

Hehe, kinda wondered how you missed the "ebay gauges"

yeah but he mentioned the old guages give the same situation.

Thanks guys... The OLD gauge that WAS mapped to the bike also makes the same "ticking"... Luckily I didn't pay too much for the ebay gauge, it was my way to try to not have to buy a BRAND new speedo... If I get the ECU that goes with the speedo could I swap BOTH of them? Otherwise I would just run the cracked up speedo for the time being... again, there is a "ticking" as soon as I turn the key RIGHT where the relays are next to the battery.  I took the battery out of my working Monster (07 695) right after I took her for a ride, so it is NOT the battery... I figured the gauge might be an issue, but I still don't know what all of the "ticking" is.

You would need the gauges, ecu AND the red key all from the same bike.  Then all would be sympatico.

Your stock set-up may be fubar simply b/c of the "smashing" you mentioned.  If it decided things are not "mated" then it could experience the same symptoms as the foreign gauges.

You can just swap the speedometer into your old gauges.  First, I would try getting the bike started with the old gauges as is. My guess is the ticking is either the solenoid or one of the relays, which is classic weak battery.

I'd lean toward a battery issue also.

as for the gauges, maybe you should take this opportunity to have the guy who's remapping S2R ECUs remap yours and disable the immobilizer while he's at it.  Then you can use the new gauge cluster, no problem.

You can disable the immobilizer? Meaning turn the dam thing off completely? Do tell........

disable immobilizer+++

Read down on the guy's post.  His price for a remap is pretty competitive, and he includes immobilizer disable if you so desire.  The price of just an immobilizer punch seems a little high for something soo simple, but then, I dunno how to do it or it'd be free for me  ;D

the upcost for the equipment is high. thats why. but the service is still worth it considered you could talk someone down from the red key $1000 bucks then spend 150 to get rid of it. ;)

Oh I'm sure it's worth it, after all, I can't do it myself  ;)  Considering what Monstermash is offering, I gotta say, I'll consider just doing the remap at some point.  Presently, I'd rather blow my wad on suspension and wheels, maybe brakes, constantly tyres....  HP really isn't high on my priorities....  But when it becomes, I'm gonna just at the remap.
