Why buy new for something you plan to take off road? Any damage you do won't be covered under the warranty. That's the only reason to buy new IMO...

My current rig is a 2000 Dodge Ram quad cab long box so it is not conducive with fun in the tight spots. It has no problem with mud, snow, etc and with the current 33s on it, has pleny of ground clearance for anything around here. And it sure is fun o muddy it up. Being that it was a farm truck, the occasional stick scratch or rock ding does nothing to me emotionally.

Before that was a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee with stock suspension with some narrow 31s on it. It could go pretty much anywhere I needed it to and only got stuck once and that was in South Dakota after a blizzard at a cell tower site. Didn't notice because of the drifting the 3 foot drop off to either side of the lane to the tower. Fortunately, an East River Power and Ligt truck stopped by to check their microwave dishes on the same tower site.

Before that was a late 80s S10 Blazer with a 3 inch body lift and 31s. It went anywhere my friends went and then some because I could fit between things they couldn't. I tried everything I could do to kill that thing but it just kept coming back for more. Eventually, it garnered a nickname in the local 4x4 scene "Little Tonka Truck" because it would go most anywhere and was always pulling something twice it's size out of the mud.

Before that I had a 1972 K5 Blazer "Cowboy Convertible". This was my beast. 12 inch rear leafs and 14 inch font leafs, custom made ladder bars front and rear, detroit lockers with 5.13s front and rear, 38 inch Swamper TSLs, 6 shocks front, 4 shocks rear and dual steering stabs, 396 with a well built TH400 backing it. Just before I sold it, I picked up a set of 42s from a friend who was getting out of the hobby as well dirt cheap and took it out to try out "2x4". This was a DEEP nasty mud hole that got it's name because it was like that girl you know who you are sure you would need to strap a 2x4 to your back to keep from getting sucked in if you ever got that far with her...yeah we were classy folks. It madeit through with some knucklehead in a Dodge with 4 inchs of lift that ended up on its side and about half way up the roof in the mud and water. Nobody told him that the left side was the deep rut.

And my first experience with playing in the dirt with 4 wheels came in the form of a 1969 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4. Stock height with a set of steel studded snow tires on it. That one got rolled down a hill, buried in my up over the hood, had a log chain snap and wrap through the windshield over the roof, bent the trailing arms on the rear suspension as well as the centering arm which were all then straightened in the field with hammers and high-lift jacks...

No pictures here at work but I will get some together when I get home tonight.
I also had a KX80, a KDX80 punched out to 125, a Honda FourTrax 250, and a Polaris Trailboss 250 that all had had lives. Just sold the Polaris in 2008.

Here is my '03 Jeep TJ, it was going to stay stock but a 3 1/2" Rubi X'press shortarm came to me super cheap

Here it is without it's hat

The custom license plate frame was because of this

So I decided it needed some of these

Then I needed to see if they worked...It needs more lift

Then I fell into this

So I need to install what is in this (This is my pops, he is puting all of This into my little TJ

My 1973 FJ40 slithering down a muddy bank into a stream somewhere in PA:

Sold it to a friend about five or six years ago; he's the proprietor of Iron Pig Offroad and did it up with lots of goodies (new body, air lockers, lots of aussie bits, lots of other stuff I'd never even bothered to check if I could afford) to show what his shop could do. I saw the pictures and it was a little like running into an old girlfriend who'd had a lot -- I mean a LOT -- of work done. Kinda cool, kinda weird.

I thought I had it out of my system, but last Saturday drove two hours east to look at an FJ60. One whiff of gear oil, and it all came back...

I think your Jeep pulls to the right. You might need an alignment. [cheeky]

Funny, Hummers and such aren't even considered 'off road worthy' around here.  In fact people normally just point and laugh at the drivers, but I see their usefulness in other locations.

I have a 1974 Bronco that is built to the hilt.  I'm on my work computer, but I'll post a pic when I get home.  Unfortunatly I haven't touched it in a few years due to a massive loss of intrest in spending thousands of dollars to go bash my rig up on the trail.  I'm keeping the truck around though, in case I get the itch again.

Also, have a KTM 300exc, which is the real reason I could care less if I ever go four wheeling again.  Dirt biking > four wheeling, no contest.

this was mine:

I built it from the ground up. It was an 88, as old as me, but that thing was mint; even after I put it through hell and back.

This one isn't really meant for off road it looks like, but you gotta give the guy credit for intentionally getting it stuck!

This is mine.  Had it for about 10 years now.  Its my third Wrangler and I've also owned two Cherokees.  When I bought it it had 29 inch tires on it.  Now its got 35s.  I originally put a Pro Comp 4 inch lift on it but it sucked balls.  Then I built the spring over with custom springs, shock mounts, skid plate and all the goodies.  Its running detroits front and rear with 4.56 gears but will be getting 4.88s in the near future.  It has a one inch body lift, one inch poly motor mounts, and the skid plate is one inch higher too.  The spring over accounts for 7-8 inches of lift.  It also has a buggy leaf setup in the rear.  It will do about 1100 on an RTI ramp.
