DFW Powdercoating?
«
on:
March 14, 2009, 01:51:17 PM »
I'm looking to get my wheels powdercoated black. I'm tired of cleaning them.
My quote from AMS was between 500-700 depending on whether I showed up with wheels or with them still attached to bike/tires.
I was hoping somebody has had this or similar work done and could recommend a shop, etc.
Lemme know.

You have to remove the bearings a lot of work if you havent done it before..., you will need a heat gun (not hair dryer) or a bearing removal tool...
AMS powdercoats at TOPCOAT they are a bit step but they do great work...
i powdercoated a lot of wheels in the past, last time i did something was like $150 but it's been a couple years... topcoat could be close to $300 but that's if you take the wheels bare without bearings...

IIRC there may have been an issue with a13bpilot's 900SS wheels when they were PC'd. I don't recall the thread title, but worth a note if you want your wheels done over at custompowdercoating.com
I don't have FHE with them

they were old marchesini's... stamped brembo but labled marchesini. i think they were actually from a different (older) bike. i know that the bearings were super tight when i installed them after getting them powdercoated, so i'm not sure what the deal was there.

no, they did do that...there wasn't any powdercoating where the bearings are inserted. i meant the "normal" tightness....just what you would expect with installing bearings. as it was i had to put them in the freezer for a little bit before attempting to put them in the wheel.

Jason's engine has a fresh coat is silver paint. I should be able to shoot the frame and wheels today. Should be back on the road in another 6-8 years ( at present rate).
The rear wheel on the SS spun the bearing on the left side which leads to 5 spoke Marchesini's. Make sure the people doing th PC know what they are doing!
