you don't need to bore the triple -- it will fit if you tried a bit harder like on this one S4R that came into my shop for "minor fixes".

if I had a vagina...I'd never leave the house

ok please tell me that is a crashed bike. not someone attempting to install oversized forks. cause that warrants a boot to the face.

Thanks!  I just spit coffee everywhere!  I like how the lower isn't shimmed either, although with the lack of attention on the upper, who would even notice the lower being a bit "off" as well [laugh] [laugh] [clap] [clap]

I bought a 53mm Cycle Cat top triple ( blem) from Oncycles.com for $119, if I remember correctly....only thing I could find wrong with it is a tiny x scratched into the underside.

Paired it with a used set of Ferracci clip ons I bought for $100.  Ive seen Moto Wheels clip ons used for $75....  Shop around.

Note: the reason why I went this route is a local machinist wanted $150 just to bore the top triple...

That is more than I would want to pay.  But to be fair to your machinist, it's a precision job and the set up is what takes time and he has expenses and not much of that $150 stays in his pocket.   So, although from our point of view it's a lot of money, it's far from EZ money for the machinist.

I don't agree.

I don't have my mill yet, but if I did I'd do it for like $50. That covers my time and gives him a deal. Tooling costs are negligable in this application.

But that's just how I'd look at it.

I don't agree either.

Clamp that sucker down.

Indicate it.

Set up the boring bar, and make chips.  A halfway decent metal chipper should be able to do the whole thing in an hour TOPS!

Agreed, 30 minutes setup and i could use any of a half dozen tools in the cnc to size those holes in less than a minute.
