Curious to see the percentage of left-handed people who frequent the DMF. More than 10% would be abnormally high.

what about ambidextrous?
without that as an option, i am forced to go with boobies

(i write with my right hand, everything else i can do right or left handed)

Did you not read the poll? "Which hand do you primarily write with?"

Regarding writing:

I am aware that most people do plenty of things "the wrong way," so I figured I would draw the line at the hand you draw lines with.

Left-handed people tend to do a lot of things right-handed (most lefties are heavily ambidextrous because the world is so righty-friendly), but few right-handed people write with their left hand and vice versa (and when they do it is usually because of injury or being forced to do things a certain way by parents or teachers).

I probably should have asked "do you consider yourself a righty or lefty?" If I had an ambidextrous option, everyone would pick it. People that are born ambidextrous are extremely rare. Boobies for you. [cheeky]

i did read it.............but which hand you write with is not an accurate description of your "handedness" to me. although i write right handed, i do everything else with whichever hand is handy.

a big exception to this is shooting. i cant shoot right handed to save my life. 100 % lefty there.

thus my question,
and my answer to the poll  [thumbsup]

LA

I'm generally left handed, but I always said I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous. ;D

Maybe you're right-handed and, for you, shooting left-handed IS shooting right-handed.

Take this for example: I'm left-handed, and I play guitar "right-handed." My reason for doing this is that my left hand does all the intricate work. I have a great deal of trouble imagining how most right-handed people choose to play this way.

Now, with a rifle, your right arm is stronger and supports the bulk of the weight, while aiming with fine motor control. All your left hand has to do is squeeze the trigger (gee, that takes a lot of skill!). This could still apply to pistols unless you shoot them one-handed... it all depends on what's more important to you while holding an object.

herm

not that i play guitar, but when i mess with one, it feels natural to pluck with the fingers of my left hand.
as for the shooting.....i think its more about dominant eye than which hand

Herm beat me to it.

Shooting left or right handed has nothing to do with which hand is doing what.  It's about putting the gun on the side of your body that puts the sights in line with the eye you can aim with.

Except for one guy I've gone hunting with a couple of times.  He shoots right-handed but aims with his left eye.  make the beast with two backsing weird.  He's an amazing shot though.  It blows my mind.

LMT

I write with left hand, everything else is with the right hand.  I target shoot, shoot right handed , but am left eye dominant.

I can write with the right hand and it is neater, but does not feel right.

toaster

i am righthanded when it comes to writing, but there are a few things i can do better with my left.  i am mechanically inclined (at least i think i am) and theres some things you just cant do with your right hand.
