Hi,,,,my name is John,,, & I am a squid.

Woooow,,,,,,,I just spent 45 mins reading this post.
I ride with shorts, T shirt & sandals. Pull power wheelies down the main street. Then checking in my mirrors & over my shoulder to see if I have attracted the attention of the wrong guys  [leo] [leo],  & I have been known to pass the occasional car or motorcycle on the inside or outside while entering a corner.
Most of the time the danger I present is on myself.

Yep,,,,I am a squid,, & proud of it  ;D I didnt buy a S4RS to drive 60 mph & enjoy the scenery.
Long live the squid (ME)

PS. Are we ever going to get spell check n this site?

Could you do me the favor of not taking a pass on me in a corner?  If I wanted red all over the side of my car I would just go ahead and have flames painted on it. THANKS  [thumbsup]
Do whatever the hell you want on an empty road, once you do it in traffic it puts other people in danger whether you think so or not.

Way back on page one of this thread a very wise man said:
+ 1 on this wbeck257.  The minute I use (or hear someone else use) the term "squid' to describe another I smell elitism.  I'm not even thinking about condoning chaos' delivery but I can see a bit of the reasoning behind his overly-aggressive defense .

IMHO, anyone on this or on any other board who has ever posted about riding over his head in the crash thread, or talking about a brisk ride in the canyons or popping a wheelie during a 1-2 gear shift could justifiably be labelled a squid by someone else who (a) doesn't ride that way or (b) thinks he can somehow do the same thing in a "more responsible" manner.

"He who lives in a glass house ought not throw stones"   [cheeky]

The difference is usually when the person got in over their head they had gear on that did its best from keeping them in traction.  I am not going to say there are some people that don't act elitist because there are those that do but at the same time, some of the shit people do and wear on a motorcycle is just make the beast with two backsing stupid.
If mocking someone for doing something stupid is elitist well, damn...
I mean if someone wants to go climbing without a rope, you better be damn good at a climbing, and I am going to guess that Mr. T shirt and sandals isn't a motorcyclist equivalent in skill to a ropeless rock climber.  So yes, that dickhole flying down the highway in shades and a t shirt bobbing and weaving through traffic is going to get pointed at and laughed at.  Just as you would laugh at someone going in to a professional football game without pads.

Nothing, as long as it's your entire tank and cowl.  Now putting steel treadplate applique on your swingarm is a bit much.

Damn, now Im going to have to scrap the "swingarm project"!!!!    ;D

Squid.. tough to define, but like the supreme court said about porn.. "I know it when I see it".

Suffice it to say, the kid screaming by you (w/o adequate sightlines to pass safely) with a girlfriend on the pillion wearing hotpants and flipflops...

..is a SQUID.

'Course this 'tard would argue that he's not hurting you.  OTOH, when his juvenile behavior puts him down w/ grilfriend sliding on the pavement behind him, I doubt girlfriends parents would agree with him.

I know the ER nurses who have to debride his roadrash (& girlfriend's) wouldn't agree with him.  I can promise you the MD conducting his (& girlfriend's) skin grafts wouldn't agree with him.  I doubt the insurance co paying for those skingrafts agrees with him.  I'm pretty sure that you and I (paying higher motorcycle and health insurance premiums because of this idjit's stunts and consequences) agree with him either.

Guess squid ends up being short for motorcycle mounted moron.

One problem w/ riding like an immature kid, is that you don't ever get to realize it unless you manage to stay alive long enough to grow up.

Too many squids don't live that long.

Didn't get a shot of this squid before...

..but here's a photo of the squid after.

QuoteAnd I thought all along that it was actually comparing the physical character of a Squid to a traumatised human body after crashing a motorcycle.

I heard that is exactly where the term originates from.  Its basically Emergency Medical Technician talk for a body that has been basically separated into two halves.  The entrails/intestines then hang out of the upper portion of the body...like a squid.

I sometimes don't wear a jacket but I ride much less aggressively and slower to make up for it and I don't think that makes me a squid; does it?

I hadn't noticed that.  Eep.

I was thinking about this a few days ago, and realized that, in college, i was a serious squid.  I wore shorts, maybe my dad's army jacket from Viet Nam, gloves, Chuck Taylors and a helmet.  I felt safe.  I was stupid, but I had no idea that I was stupid.  After all, I rode my bicycle wearing nothing but spandex and a tiny helmet, sometimes at 40+ mph (down hills, of course).  Ignorance is indeed bliss.

ALERT- a little bit nasty.  He was doing about 120 MPH, ran into the back of a truck.  Notice he has no shoes, must have gotten scraped off on the highway.   [puke] [puke] [puke] [puke] [puke] [puke] [puke] [puke] [puke] [puke] [puke] [puke]

I had seen the photos of this, but hadn't read the snopes article.  The last paragraph is a bit shocking.  His friend attended his funeral and then died in a similar accident a few days later.  w   t   f

I used to ride plenty fast on the highway as I'm sure many others do. I stopped quite some time ago. Too many outside variables can lead to similar scenarios.

Absolutely tragic incident.. but if I'm reading this correctly the victim had one friend die in a similar fashion a week before, and another friend die in another speed related wreck the following week!?

I'm just one old curmudgeon who's been lucky enough to live through a bunch of risky behavior in earlier years.. but even in those situations I realized that whatever consequences I might face were of my own doing.

'Fraid personal responsibility has gone out the window these days.  Statements like this one from the snopes article don't help the situation or address the real issue.. "We've got to do something to save these kids, We've got to do something to support them.."

WE can't do a single thing in the world to save "these kids" from themselves.  Nobody can change "these kids" behavior but the kids themselves.

IMO, statements like Snopes' only boost efforts to legislate performance motorcycles off the road. We lose additional rights and freedoms every year, "for the children's sake".

Have to bite my tongue now, any more and I'm gonna get political...

THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!  Personal responsibility long gone these days.

Anybody remember the squid that went through a taco bell?  That was 10X worse.
