wheels for 2000 m900

Can anyone tell me what year wheels would fit on a 2000 m900? Thanks very much in advance.

Is your rear axle hollow or solid?  I'm no expert, but I've been doing a lot of research into putting some 2000< wheels on my '99.  AFAIK, 900 wheels changed from the older, solid, 17mm axle to newer, hollow, 25mm axles in 2000.  The other bikes (750-600) some time later.  Accordingly, if you have the solid axle, any wheel from a 2000< monster will work, if you have the hollow one, any wheel from a 2000< with a double-sided swingarm will work.

thanks for the good information. I'm actually not in possession of the bike and looking at a salvaged monster ............thinking of buying it as a track bike.
So....I'm not really sure if it has the solid axle or not, but this is great info. for when I go to see it.

Well, in which case I'd hope it has the newer wheels if I were you.  Nice wheels for older bikes are getting harder and harder to find.

A 2000 M900 has a solid 17mm axle
Problem is that you can't buy the good bearings if you buy a lets say 5 spoke S4 wheel
Front wheels is much easier every thing will fit with a 25mm axle will fit exept 999 wheels
I fiited some S4 wheels in my 2001

Bummer, I thought the 900 changed in 2000 with the FI.  Most of the wheel fitment charts I've looked at list <2000 and 2000< for 900s.  I know that the Alpina wheels I'm installing had a spacer in the rear wheel to allow the use of the 53mm X 25mm X 12 mm bearings OR the 53 mm X 17mm X 14 mm bearings that the older wheels use.  (May be 56mm OD, I can't remember.  They are the same for both types of wheel.)

btw, I'm stil loving the Gallasetti.     (Although I'm probably putting the RoadRacing pipe back on, noise be damned.  )

Up to and including the 1999 model year, the Monster had a 20mm front axle.  In 2000 (& up) they changed the front axle to a 25mm 'hollow' axle that people are talking about in this thread.

MONSTER REAR AXLE:

Up to and including the 2001 model year (except the 2001 S4), the Monster had a 17mm rear axle.  2002 - 2008 Monsters (& '01 S4's) have a 25mm rear axle (also 'hollow').

From 1993 (IIRC), up to and including the 1998 model year, the SS had a 20mm axle (unless you find a 1998 SS european model which has the same specs as a US 1999).  In 1999, Ducati switched the SS up to the 25mm hollow front axle.  (1991 & 1992 SS's had a 17mm front axle IIRC.)

SS REAR AXLE:

1991 up to 2007 (or whenever they stopped making the bike), the SS's had a 17mm rear axle.  All of them did.

The 2000-2001 monster front wheels also used a mechanical driven speedo which doubled as a spacer on the front wheel. Where the 2002 (also the 2001 S4) and newer all use a digital speedo's which are read off the rear wheel. And there's a plain spacer instead of of the mechanical speedo drive/spacer on the front wheel.

ST4 and Monster S4 are both 5-spokes.  The front off a 998 is a 5-spoke as well.  As far as a decent price goes, well...post up under 'Parts Wanted' and see what comes up.  May take a while though...

this might be a stupid question however, is there any way to make a rear wheel with the 25mm axle fit the 2000 monster  which takes a rear wheel with the 17mm axle? I only ask as it appears that the 2000 rear wheel is tough to find.
