Bike wont start after taking the tank off and draining the gas.

I took my tank off to have it welded and repainted about 3 months ago. I just put the tank back on, and put a gallon of gas in it.  Does it take a while to start it again? Is one gallon of gas enough in the tank or should i put more? It wont start, ive tried about 4 times now.

I would expect one gallon to be enough.


Do you hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key on?

i Just went down and bought another gallon and put it in, still no go. its a 2002 M750. Fuel injected. I just tried it about 15 times it aint startin. Wonder what i did wrong.  Crap it figures. Yeah i hear the fuel pump come on every time i turn the key. Wonder if i got the two fuel lines switched around. Someone had labeled them before with sticky tape reading R and M, i figured that meant return and main.

Check the fuel filter, check for kinked lines. Does it make any sounds like it's even trying to start?

i just checked again. I have the fuel lines hookup up backwards to the tank........dam i thought i had checked that for sure.

Now, whats the best way to swap those lines without spilling gas all over the bike, i forget do they both spill out gas when you unhook them? crap. I dont want to have to drain all that gas out all over again.....why oh why.

I think Rameses had some sort of method for that.

While you're at it, cut out a sections of each fuel line and install some quick disconnects.  Install them in opposite orientations, and you'll never make the mistake of reversing them again.  [thumbsup]

Salty just get some towels and a friend to clog the fuel return hole with their finger and swap the lines... no need to drain it again.

I just did the same thing you did when i put my tank back on a couple weeks ago.

Was easy.

Being a big fan of the unnecessary I like this idea, but the practical cheap bastard side of me can't justify it. How often do you remove the tank?  My tank is off now while I get the right feeler gauges to check the valves. I can't imagine needing to remove the tank more than once every few years maybe more.  This is the first time in two years of owning the thing that I have needed to.   Hmmmm   ??? 

Oh and for the the sake of search and possibly unnecessary information the R stands for Ritorno and the M stands for Mandata which is itailian for the obvious   8)

+1  I have my tank off once a year to check valves (gotta do something in the winter) and I haven't yet felt I needed to spend money on these.  I'm sure they're handy as hell but I've heard enough complaints of leaks and torn o-rings that I'd just as soon siphon the tank and deal with it that way.
