Okay, here are some pics of my former M696's glowing red pipes when the engine is warming up. I only noticed it when the cold start switch is engaged. When it's off and the bike is idling lower, the glowing goes away. Spidey said it was because the bike is running too lean. I only thought it was one pipe, but noticed the 2nd pipe glowing by the rear shock. If it weren't for a dark garage, I prolly would not have noticed it.

I admit, I'm not much of a wrencher. I did install the termis and ECU on this bike, though. Do you still think it's running too lean? If yes, what needs to be adjusted? Something I can do or should I bring it to ...? Recommendations?

My 620 did/does this too, but I know it runs rich compared to my Wife's 620... (I had way less problems starting at high altitude on our trip last summer)

My bikes still running after 40k miles so... I'm not sure you need to do anything, but I am most definitely NOT an expert so...

My 696 does this too.  Only with the cold start lever on and as soon as I shut it off it stops.  I don't know if its from running lean or just idling high when warming up - maybe that assist leans up the bike a little bit too.  I'm at 5300 miles and I don't have any issues.

My 695 has also done that, only on the warm up with the cold start lever on.

If it ain't broke.....

Does it start and move along fine? Then just turn on the light and ignore the pipe. You're under warranty for a year or two-if it's serious, it'll show up before then.  Tongue

From the sound of it, this is normal. Whew! Just kept thinking she's gonna blow!
