If you are driving from Mississippi to Nashville, you need to call Alain at Corse Motorsports and arrange work to be done. He's a great mechanic, and beyond making it run right, he'll get you information about track days at Barber Motorsports in Birmingham, AL. Not far, at all, from Mississippi (ask me how I know - From Nashville, lived in Memphis, used Alain's shop, been to Barber, driven through missippippi and bama to get to athens, ga from memphis regularly).

That should pretty much answer all your questions. To chime in on the theme of the board, can't condone fast-straight-aways speed on the slab. its amateurish, dangerous, and it jeopardizes my rights as a motorcyclist every time somebody does this. Bad PR.

I only wound my box stock M800 Dark out once, at the track.  Wind wasn't really all that bad.  It was only doing 115 indicated.  That seemed a little low.  And also boring.  After lap 3 the long straight was just boring, boring, boring.  The corners and the back straight with a chicane were great.  I suppose it might be more exciting on a public road with the higher chance of collision and arrest.  I prefer twisty roads between 30 and 70mph.

A good track day will let you wind the bike out and teach you how to ride better.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

well i hit 190km/hr about 118mph today going into a strong headwind. 696 with 14t sprocket. about 8100-8200 rpm, didn't look down long enough to read it that well. next time i'll have the digital tac on.

open stretch of autobahn. completely legal  [thumbsup]

tell you what.. going any faster than that... i'll need to strap myself on. so can't understand how you did 137 without being torn off the bike  by the wind.

oh and still had to move over for some nice cars to pass. my favorite is when the station wagon a dad was made to buy is really an Audi S6 Avant... bet the wife never saw that coming when she said they should buy a family car.

580 PS V10... ultimate sleeper ;D

I usually have trouble being comfortable past 80 on the slab... but it gets really windy here and the autobahn is marble smooth in comparison.

Blacktop is another story... :-X

+1 for Alain at Corse Motorsports (http://www.corsemotorsports.com/). Alain is one of the best Ducati techs in the Southeast and he is less expensive that the other Ducati alternative. One other point to ponder is the way the S4 is geared. Many S4 owners drop a tooth on the front sprocket or add teeth to the back sprocket to increase acceleration and rideability. The change in gearing will reduce top end speed of the bike. I changed the rear sprocket on my M900 S4 to a 45 tooth and I noticed a big reduction in top end speed, I was actually able to use 6th gear. After the mod I loved the trade off on the back roads of Tennessee due to the fact that the bike was much quicker at real world speeds.

Maybe worth exploring, but I travel a lot back and forth. Thank you for the input.

OK, "your bike doesn't top out at 137mph...."

Probably around 125 mph, 'cause there's about a +10% error with most bike speedos...  [leo]

Sause

Think about it the B-king has a 1340cc engine and makes around 160 RWHP. It tops out at around 170mph

The Hayabusa using the same 1340cc engine is restricted to 186mph and unrestricted hits 200MPH with ease.

pretty much the same bikes but when you add the fairing, the drag coefficient drops and the bike goes faster.

you autobahn guys completly suck you get to do that legally   [bang] [bang] [bang]

wow that story with the felony speeding that sucks, that is a lesson for everyone, i got pulled over with 110 indicated, 98 clocked, got off with a warning bc i pulled over as soon as i saw the lights and explained "hey i was being a dumbass i just cleaned the bike and got carried away"

also question: wouldnt' the bike running rich actually be "good" at higher rpm if you were trying to go fast?  sure gas mileage will suffer but more fuel usually means more power to an extent right? correct me if i'm wrong.

a "rich" mixture implies a deviation from stoichiometric AFR (ideal), so it's only really advantageous when adequate cooling is a concern.

(note the difference between more gas (WOT) and more gas than air (rich))
