you autobahn guys completly suck you get to do that legally   [bang] [bang] [bang]

wow that story with the felony speeding that sucks, that is a lesson for everyone, i got pulled over with 110 indicated, 98 clocked, got off with a warning bc i pulled over as soon as i saw the lights and explained "hey i was being a dumbass i just cleaned the bike and got carried away"

if ONLY that was a common situation.

the only time i got pulled over for going over (70 in a 50) the guy stopped when i took off the helmet and took out the keys and said "i wasn't expecting a guy over 20!".. yeah, i'm over 20.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

rich ≠ go fast
lean = go fast
lean = go boom, too.

Like with two strokes, the leaner the meaner. In reality, you really want the closest to stoichiometric possible. As in, proper ratio for complete burn.

this has been an interesting topic....I have taken my Rs over 130 a couple times and its a freaking handful, with no fairings your bike wants to do what ever the hell it wants.

I have to agree with who said it...with a monster it is all about the dash TO 100  [drink]

Ducati  Monster 696cc L-twin @ 80hp, no fairings, wind resistence.  137 top speed is actually pretty good and the 696 only really gets that because it only weighs 355 lbs dry.  Compare that to a HD Sportster 883cc V-twin @ a measly 55hp, is heavier and won't even go as fast as the Monster 696

Compare to a Kawasaki ZX6R 600cc inline 4 @ 130hp, full fairings for wind resistence which can get to 137 in 3rd gear without even trying and a top speed of around 160.

Motorcycle engines of different types and configurations are not created equal. Yes, a 696cc can be slower than a 600cc and a 883cc can be slower than both a 600 and 696 and a 600cc can even be faster than some 1200ccs out there.  You need to study what you buy before it is assumed that all bikes with the same engine dispalcement have the same top speed and so on.

Kind of should of looked at the Ducati 848? 1198? if you want a speedy supersport and not a standard bike like a Monster. Kind of why you don't see Ducati racing Monsters in the MotoGP

well i hit 190km/hr about 118mph today going into a strong headwind. 696 with 14t sprocket. about 8100-8200 rpm, didn't look down long enough to read it that well. next time i'll have the digital tac on.

open stretch of autobahn. completely legal  [thumbsup]

tell you what.. going any faster than that... i'll need to strap myself on. so can't understand how you did 137 without being torn off the bike  by the wind.

oh and still had to move over for some nice cars to pass. my favorite is when the station wagon a dad was made to buy is really an Audi S6 Avant... bet the wife never saw that coming when she said they should buy a family car.

update: 210 KPH today. 130 MPH.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

130 mph = 117 mph

It is pretty well known that all bike speedos have a ~10% error. Im not sure why it happens, though I think it's due to the fact that the speedo depends on a magnet, and the faster you go, the more error prone the sensor is.

Still make the beast with two backsing fast, though  [moto]

Why can't the error be in our advantage??? Why, why, why.....???? ;D

Then he'd pulling 143!!! [evil]

Noice. let's look at it that way 'round...please???

There are several design issues that make the speedo error on the "disadvantage" side. I read a report about new cars that have the error this way, and it saves you $, both at the gas pump, and by the radar gun. There's wasn't 10% I don't think according to the article, but a smaller one.

According to some actual tests, the ZX-6 is about 105 hp at the wheel, the 696 is 65 or so (at the wheel).   The ZX will not do 137 in 3rd, and tops out at 155.  And the 696 tops out somewhere between 120 and 127 mph, depending on which test you are reading.

Lots of people like doing lots of things. Doesn't mean I won't point and laugh at them.

They are after all, free to do the same to me.

It's the great circle of ridicule (cue "Lion King" music)  ;D
