Holy S#*t Paint bubbling around Fuel Filler, HELP????
«

Hi all
Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen or similar? I went up to the shed the other night to put on some more bling
and Holy cow
I have bubbled paint around the fuel filler? I am always very careful with fuel when filling, never wipe the paint work with anything other than clean polishing cloths.
I took off the filler cap and found that the paint has bubbled inside the fuel chamber and has slowly worked its way up to the outside duco, what to do? short of getting it re painted?

Hmmmm, unfortunately if a contaminant or some such like has got under the paint it usually means a total strip, clean, prep and repaint.

Stick an enquiry on the main board, there's plenty of paint experts on there.

There is a chance that the paint was nicked or cut when the fuel filler was installed or reinstalled at one point in the life of the bike. Once any fluids start getting in under paint, it can lift it...
Sorry to hear of your troubles. - Chris

It may not be that bad (says the voice of dissent). My 749R has bubbled paint around the fuel breather. It actually gets better or worse depending mostly on temperature and humidity.
I took the bike to a local bloke who only does bike painting and he's a bit of a whiz. He had a look and said it wasn't water and there was no rust and the only reason to re-paint the tank is if it got progressively worse of if I am a perfectionist.
A year down the track it's no worse so to me it's no biggy.
Best bet is to find a good bike painter locally. If there's any custom or harley shops around you they will probably know. Harley riders tend to be pretty uptight about the finish on their land yachts
If the paint starts to dry out and flake then it's a whole different story..... get that fixed quick smart.
Cheers
