"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Cannot be repaired?!?  I find that really suspect.  Try going to a different bodyshop.  My friend is a body veteran of 40+ years and he's fixed a couple Lotuses  (Lotusii ?!?).

The Elise body is all carbon fiber and it has a clean crack right down the middle of the rear.  I don't know the details, but I was under the impression that CF can't be reattached once there is a split.  I don't think the location lends itself to patching with a surface patch.

plus, he's not the kind of guy who wants a patched part, he wants it "as original"

Oh, one of those guys.  Did you try to sell it to him as 'stronger than original'?!?     Just a thought there.

Nope, I did not get involved except to say "you will get a bill for my bumper damage, pregnant doges"

Sis just calls me all the time to complain and for backrubs.

Are you 100% sure that it's carbon fiber?  What Elise models version were cf?  I thought they were plain vanilla fiberglass.
