And theres others of having to replace tensioners and bearings .

So yeah theres maybe only one one case of catostrophic damage but there are loads more of added wear and tear.

I used to run the stock covers and one of the tensioners still seized up.  After replacing the bearing, I switched to vented covers

To the OP: Rizoma makes a cover with a clear lens if you want to see it, but still want the protection. This one is for the 1000/1100, but they make others.

Not sure how to attach links, I did find it in tech "blew out belt on highway". Now this may be the only one that I've heard of. I did talk to people from this dealer and they informed me that "Ducati" will not warranty damage to engine due to open or modified covers. They also said that this is somewhat common and most cases do not involve catostrophic failure. I guess if my warranty was expired then i might give it a shot. I do believe that if you run a purchased cover such as Rizoma, then if there is a problem you will at least have some ground to stand on. You also need a dealer who is willing to go to bat for you.

Rizoma doesn't yet make a clear-window belt cover for the 696.......  I been waiting.....  just like I been waiting for 'em to make rear-sets for 696 too....

Your 3rd option is carbon fiber.

I run Rizoma, I like the look because it has windows, and I got them before SM came out with their line. I have anodized adjustible cam pulleys too, so I wouldn't get the SpeedyMotos which would hide 'em.

I haven't used any belt cover on a 2v Ducati in over 10 years. I'm still waiting for the 1st problem.

On my 2V 900, the only thing keeping me from running open covers (aside from my investment in spendy billet covers) is the wires running across that area: There's an oil line for the oil cooler (which I'd like to reroute), the starter wire, and the oil pressure sensor wire. If I was going to run open covers, I'd probably move that stuff, but then again, I run covers and I still want to move that stuff.

The whole "rock in the belts" problem, although documented (...seldom), seems quite far fetched and improbable. Yeah, its obvious why it would invalidate a warranty should something happen, however the likelihood of something happening there is far less likely than you crashing from being distracted by a girl on the sidewalk. or from seeing a bear climbing a tree. or myriad other attention getters out there in the mix.

Alright sorry to drag this one out from the back catalouges, but does anyone know how the starter wire was rerouted and what the process is for blanking out the oil pressure sensor, and any reprecussions from doing this?

Im thinking of buying them. I ordered the cnc italy fork collars and they were high quality so id imagine these would be the same.

I believe magnus with blackfog had the open cover blown belt issue.

In my case it would just give me an excuse to put a 1000ds in my bike.
