QuoteAn electrical engineer buddy and I did some testing years ago using frequency analyzers and such and determined that Monster Cable speaker wires were no better than 12/14ga lamp cord you can buy in bulk at hardware stores. And the lamp cord blends in better on carpet.

I was going to post almost the same thing.  A friend is an audio engineer, a degree EE and designs hugely expensive high-end speakers for a living.  He gave me a set of prototypes once and when I asked him about cable he said to go to home depot and get a reel of direct burial outdoor lamp cable.

You guys mean oxygen-free, adamantium-coated, kosher, 14ga lamp cable that had been blessed by virgins?  I assume you mean that...  ;D

I've been down on Monster since they put their name on Candlestick Park a few years ago. http://www.monsterpark.com/
Also down on 3 Com for doing the same thing, Nor is AT&T one of my favorites. I forget what they are trying to call the Oakland coliseum these days but when there rattle off some new name I don't know where or what they are talking about at first.

Pisses me off.

The lamp cord in question is still in use between my 1962 Fisher 500C tube amp and my JBL speakers, nearly 15 years later. And the system still astonishes fellow audiophiles.

Don't buy (literally or figuratively) fancy, schmancy speaker wire. It ain't worth it, pure unadulterated hype.  ;)

Are you trying to tell me that Monster hasn't changed the properties of copper?

Does it say something about being a person who spends an unnecessary amount of money on something no normal human being will be able to tell the difference in? ;D

I think someone willing to shell out that much cash for cabling probably has more money tied up in components and speakers than you do in both of your new vehicles.

They probably have a dedicated listening room.

And yes, they will most likely be able to tell a significant difference between your new cables (which are now down to $0.31, BTW) and theirs.

i believe in audiophile grade components.

but i think most of the differences "audiophiles" identify in cables are psychoacoustic in nature (the ka-ching factor).

that said, i wanted these speakers like a hooker wants a rich john with ED:
