Some of you might like to compare insurance rates.  I know that I would like to find cheaper Texas insurance. I'm currently with Progressive.

My total premium for one year is $775, and it breaks down like this:

Liability (Bodily injury - $250k each person, $500k each accident, and Property Damage - $100k each accident) is just $83. I have no complaints about this premium.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage (Bodily injury - $25k each person, $50k each accident, and Property damage - $25k w/$250 deductible) is $134.

Note: UIM coverage is essential in Texas. One third of our drivers ignore the law and have no insurance at all and most of the others have minimum coverage. The stats are even worse along the border with Mexico.

Comprehensive (w/$250 deductible) is $48.

Collision (w/$250 deductible) is $500.  Ouch!

Roadside assistance is $10.

How does this compare to your rates?  Should I be happy with my rates or start shopping?  I know that I may have a different limit from you on liability but that is not the primary cost.  Collision is. I don't have any claim history and have a clean driving record so it appears that my rate is calculated on company experience with S4Rs Ducs.

I think you'll get more accurate info in one of the two Texas local forums as location makes a huge difference for insurance.

Age, gender, and years of riding experience will also make a difference.

Blimey Mike at last theres something good about residing in jolly old England as i have just renewed my policy for both the s4rs and hypermotard for the princely sum of £268.00 for fully comprehensive which as a 65 year old with 49 years rideing experence i find very good.
The problem of uninsured drivers seems to be a global phenomenon and over here the police now have the capability to digitally recognise untaxed and uninsured by their registration plates and can seize the offending vehicle and if not taxed and insured within a certain period of time the vehicle is crushed.

Mike hope you get sorted out with your insurance.

Mine's GEICO - $450 a year, and think I  have a $500 deductible.  Other companies wanted much more.

They said mine insurance would be cheaper too, but I can't pass the drivers test to get my real motorcycle driver's license.  :'(

Statler, which two Texas forums do you have in mind? The TWT forum is not, IMHO, a good source of information about anything.  I'm unaware of two Texas Monster forums but would like to know about them.

Somegirl, I'm a senior rider with several decades of riding experience without wrecks or injuries (knocking on wood). My experience is in dirt bike competition (Texas Enduro Circuit) and BMW sport touring. I've been through the basic and advanced MSF courses and two levels of the Freddie Spencer school. I usually ride ten to fifteen thousand miles per year.

And, Somegirl, I'm taking my Monster to a BMW rally in the Hill Country this weekend :)

He's probably talking about the two local forums on this board.

Huh? You don't have a drivers license? Or you don't have a M endorsment? Do you need a drivers license to get a motorcycle license?

Get a price with $500 deductible and $1000 deductible on collision.  You will probably see the rates tumble.

I'm paying $430 per year for full coverage on my 2006 S2R-1000. That is with a $500 deductible and the policy is with State Farm who I also have my auto and houe insurance through. I have a clean record (for now - LOL) and I got a 15% discount for taking the Basic Rider Course.

I failed to pass my motorcycle drivers test twice.  I've ridden daily for 38 years and have little problem getting pretty close to a 100% out of an S4RS when I try.  I'm just not good in parking lots at low speed I guess.

But when I let my car drivers license expire I had to retake my actual drivers test (that I originally passed in 1966) and I failed the drivers test for cars - my Bronco actually. I went back the next day and passed it. [bow_down]

I have to stop by the DMV and take the written test to renew my "permit" for bikes again before mid May when it expires (yearly). ;D
