I've got a very slow oil leak at the oil filter... it's about to drip a drop of oil right now... and the last drop came back in January.  So yes, glacier-like slow leakage going on... not overly concerned but I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what's going on.  Is the oil filter lose?  Is there a torque value for the filter?  Is it an indication of something worse?  It's all coming from down the side of the oil filter (and the bottom of the filter definitely has oil on it as it's collecting street grime).  Thanks for any thoughts!

This is really a pretty common problem.  Just use a strap wrench to tighten it more than you think you should and it will stop leaking.

You might check the gasket while you have it off and make sure its seated correctly and doesn't have anything collected on it that might impede the seal.  Other than that, just tighten it up as mentioned before.

tighten it up, its basically just not tighted enough.

i had the same thing when i changed my oil filter on the 620, its a common thing, the filters are the same, ducati started using a thicker and harder gasket on the filters requiring more tightening than normal.  various people here that wokr on the bikes agree that this is now the case.

good luck.

My suggestion, take the filter off. make sure you dont have a gasket o-ring from a previous oil filter stuck inside the bike, clean existing o-ring and torque tight.

If the existing o-ring is still in there any amount of torqueing wont help. Might as well err on the safe side.

I would call the dealer on this one.... im booshitin   :P
you probably need to get your torque elbow calibrated and put a little more click click on it...  [cheeky]

Yeah common problem but on the 696 tightening isn't working for everyone.  For me it has to do with the temp cycles from bike running everyday to sitting for a week or so (travel for work, cant take her with me).  More than likely its a quality control issue with the filter or where the filter connects with the bike.

After 8k, I dont worry about it much, just check your level each time like you should and keep a rag handy.
