Did a search and the only thing I found mentioning oil filters was Amsoil.  I was wondering what other oil filters everyone else has used/uses and which ones are supposed to be "good"?  Please list year, model of cycle and where you purchased the oil filter:

I use K&N performance.it also has a place on the bottom to wrench it off.

Me too. The hex head feature on K&N filters makes removal in cramped quarters a lot easier.

pretty much all the oil filters out there are about the same for our bikes, the new EaO filters by Amsoil are the absolute best filtration you can get as stated by Georgecls on TOB, who was our oil guru

What he said. The new EaO filters are pretty much an order of magnitude better than anything else you can buy.

I'll just stick to the filters I get from AMS.

All Ducati bikes with a spin-on filter use the exact same one since 1984.  All models, 2v,4v, etc

I would rank the filters this way (not including the Scott reusable filter)

1. Amsoil EaO  $15
2.  Perf-form $8 (order from their website)
3.  K&N  $14 (Same as Hi-Flo)
4.  Ducati factory $10-12 (dealer)

There are others, but if they're no better than factory, I don't rank them.  I developed a cross-reference list years ago, but most are no good (Fiamm, etc)

THe Perf-Form are actually much better than the K&N, they use a 100% poly filter, no paper and all EPDM rubber inside.  I've done the "filter surgery" and have been very impressed with their quality.  $7 each if you buy a dozen.

If you like the K&N nut, just buy some 17mm hex nuts and use epoxy or JB Weld to put the nut on the bottom.  They are not bad, just not as good as the Perf-Form.  High quality paper/poly element similar to the factory filter but slightly bigger element.

I've never used them and have no problem getting a filter off with my channel-lock pliers, but they are not bad filters.
Also, buy yourself some neodymium magnets.  I put 3 on my filters, 1" long and 3/16" wide.  They keep any ferrous metal from leaving the filter, work great.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

A little more on why the EaO is so awesome.

The flow rates are much greater even though the filtration is so much finer.

Fluid engineer George's analysis of the oil run in an engine with an EaO filter was "cleaner" than when it was put in new.
In other words the EaO filtration level was higher than the filtration level at the production facility the oil came from.

This is the Amsoil model number I got for Ducati: EAOM138C

I haven't used one yet, but thier website didn't specify it was for the 1098. It just said Superbike. Seems like they all use the same one. Am I right on this? Where is the best place to purchase one?

I seem to recall being told all Duc's use the same filter. Someone else should clarify.
EaOM138 is the production filter number. The C is for crome.

Basically, after George determined how good the EaO is, there was a large grass roots effort by lots of us folks at the TOB to convince Amsoil to produce an EaO filter for Ducati. We swamped them with requests. The EaOM138C was the first run and it was in crome. Probably because they had already started producing a similar specced filter for some Harley's. This initial run is starting to run out and Amsoil reps have said that they will likely change the filter to black starting with the next run, due to popular demand.

I put the Ducati filter on so far (3 of them in 6,000 miles).  Since I don't reuse them, I take them off real easy with BAP's...big ass pliers.
