G'day all

I have been going over my bike slowly over the last couple of weeks changing out all the alloy bolts for Stainless steel, trying to get rid of all the corroded and rusty bolts/screws, I'm just about finished, only a few little bits and pieces to go.

I am wondering does anyone know of a replacement for the Cylinder head nuts?
I'm not worried if they are Stainless or Titanium, or even if you know the size and I will source some replacements that way.

They are looking pretty sad and corroded and they are some of the last fasteners I have to replace.

Thanks.   [thumbsup]

You talking about the big nasty star shaped nuts?  I want to replace those too.  I've got MonsterParts SS engine kit coming, but it doesn't come with those.  +1 on what size nuts those are!

That's the one's, worst case I might take one off and take it to a specialist nut and bolt supplier.

theres a kiwi mob thats a regular on ebay that are making the flange nuts to fit the the old bevels. they're not ya fancy star ones they're just normal stainless flange nuts, but its the same thread.

or, here...    http://www.tastynuts.com/site/frameset.htm    I've bought lots of shiny stuff here, expensive, but nice...    [thumbsup]

or try Racebolts.com - I used them to replace the two nuts per header to hold the flanges and header pipes on.

Thanks for the info, I have been using the Tastynuts website for most of the other nuts and bolts, but I couldn't find a listing for the Cylinder head nuts, I'll have a look at Racebolts as well.

Thanks

PM'd DuckStew about the bolt size, and they are M10x1.5.  He recommends ARP for replacements, though he wasn't too keen on replacing them either for rust or aesthetic reasons.  Big PITA to replace apparently.

Chchadder, did he say why they are a problem to replace? Not doubting Duckstews word, just curious why it was a problem.

I am not planning on replacing all of them, just a couple on the Horz head which have copped just a little to much debris and road grime and are looking very sad.

Chchadder

I think his opinion centered both on the PITA factor as well as the cost of the bolts from ARP.  I sent off an email to ARP to see how much just the nuts were, as I believe Duc cylinder head studs are just a stud with no fixed bolt end.  I'll post up when I get a reply from them on price.  My horizontal head nuts are also looking cruddy.  Not so worried about the vertical head here either.

well, that was one issue had only considered last night, undo the nut and the bolt may want to come with it, Tastynuts sells flanged Titanium nuts, worst case I could order a couple and give it a go, if the bolt starts spinning I could just tension it back to spec and leave it, I was thinking I could put a pen mark on the bolt and only undo the nut a half turn at a time and check to make sure the nut is moving, but the bolt is staying put, maybe a little squirt of WD40 or similar on the nuts first just to try and help them rotate and not the bolt section.

there's a product called liquid wrench that might help too.

for bolt sourcing, also remember:
