No worries...sounds like one I'd like to own anyway. I dig books on real world espionage.  [thumbsup]  I have the Time Life series on WWII (was a gift), and the one detailing WWII espionage is friggin' awesome!

This one is very cool.

there are actually a lot of pictures of the spy tools and some of the KGB photos of them catching their own spying and working for the CIA!

I'd lend you my copy but just went in the mail to my brother and he is known for not returning my books  :-\

haha,.........my brother is the same way. i would lend him a book, making it clear that i wanted it back.
he would finish it and let a friend take it, never to be seen again. >:(

now i dont lend books. if i give someone a book to read, i give it as a gift. let the libraries worry about overdue books [thumbsup]

If you like naval stuff, I'd suggest UNDER THE BLACK FLAG by David Cordingly. That's a pretty awesome pirate book.

Lots of war books here - I am going to have to check them out

Taking a different subject, I liked "The Man Who Knew Infinity: A Life of the Genius Ramanujan" - he was a self-taught mathematician who did a lot of work on prime numbers, and later, a bunch of math shit I don't understand.   Impressive-sounding shit I don't understand.  (In actuality, the math is really kind of secondary to the biography - it is a good read.)

PM me if you are interested.  I am gonna pay this one forward :)

I just read this - what a great book, gripping!

check out Into the Wild as well...

also reading "Road to Serfdom" by FA Hayek & "Liberty & Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto" by Mark Levin
...as I find myself more & more a Libertarian, than just a disgruntled Republican...

Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer is also an awesome read.  Real eye opening.   :o

I've been wanting to read 'Road to Serfdom.' Maybe when I get back to the states...

On the political side, everyone should read Albert J. Nock's 'Our Enemy the State.'

For those with less angry interests, check out any of Anthony Bourdain's cooking/touring books ('Kitchen Confidential,' etc.). They're pretty fun reads. Also, Michele Slatalla's  'Masters of Deception: The Gang That Ruled Cyberspace' is entertaining.

Oh, another amusing read: Chuck Klosterman's 'Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs: A Low Culture Manifesto'.
"If it weren't for our gallows humor, we'd have nothing to hang our hopes on."

Into Thin Air - Jon Krakauer: a personal account of tragedy on mount Everest. a good look into leadership failure in high risk activities.

If you are going to read that hack's book, you ought to read 'The Climb', by Anatoli Boukreev.  One must understand that Krakauer is wracked with self-loathing due to the fact that he passed out in his tent and didn't do shit to help anybody.  Boukreev is the true hero, of that tragedy, but you won't learn that in Jon's book (make the beast with two backsing hack).

Sorry for the rant, but this is a hot-button topic in the PNW climbing community.

For a recommendation, I'll put out: "Conquest & Culture", by Thomas Sowell.  An interesting look at how conquests, through the ages, has impacted cultures around the world.
