Sorry just saw the thread revival!

The relevance of adding an oil cooler to air cooled monster is for the fact of oil breakdown due to exposure of high temperature. Granted synthetic motor oil can take much more extreme temps than conventional motor oil, it still degrades faster in high temperatures.  Oil coolers significantly increase the effective life of your motor oil in high temperatures.  Oh yeah, they also increase Horsepower! (due to the fact of the engine running 30 degrees cooler....)
