termis getting quieter over time?
«

this may sound dumb, but my exhaust doesn't seem as loud anymore, am i just getting used to it? I have the slip-ons for my m695 with open airbox, baffles out. What to do? I remember the first time i rode it home, i taught everyone was looking at me because it was SOOO loud, now i only feel like its loud when i engine break and let the rpm's drop.

Either you're getting used to the sound, or you're going deaf!!
It's my understanding that with time the packing breaks down and exhausts get louder.

Yep... you're going deaf.
Seriously, do you use ear plugs? IF not, you really might be.
Like pom said, they will get louder over time as the packing breaks down, not quieter. So either your just getting used to it.. or loosing some hearing.

i had a hearing test not too long ago, so i think my hearing is fine. i guess i'm just getting used to it.

get a db meter. measure it to be certain. My new pipes (at 4000rpm) measured out at 97 db without db killers from about 3 feet away at a 45 degree angle. I didn't measure from the seat. at that level i was wearing earplugs. with the db killers in it dropped to 94 db. i don't wear earplugs, but i can hear the ringing after awhile if i don't.
How loud is too loud?
150 Firecracker
120 Ambulance siren
110 Chain saw, Rock concert
105 Personal stereo system at maximum level
100 Wood shop, Snowmobile
95 Motorcycle
90 Power mower
85 Heavy city traffic
60 Normal conversation
40 Refrigerator humming
30 Whispered voice
110 Decibels
Regular exposure of more than 1 minute risks permanent hearing loss.
100 Decibels
No more than 15 minutes of unprotected exposure recommended.
85 Decibels
Prolonged exposure to any noise at or above 85 decibels can cause gradual hearing loss.

Funny I was thinking exactly the same thing and I have the same bike and set up with no db killers, the first time I rode it the low base volume made me slightly nauseous but know they sound quiet, so it must be we have become familiar with the volume .
I ware earplugs on long rides not for short ones, probably should ware them all the time.

Interesting #'s.
I measured my exhaust (Spark) at 118db at 6' when they were new (+3 years ago). I'll try again and report back.
I use to not wear ear plugs, and always ended up with a headache after riding.
Now..., If I'm going over 5 miles, or on the freeway, I always (try to) wear earplugs.

I love the sound of my full termis, but sometimes I truly think there is such a thing as too loud. Not the irritating HD sound, but very loud still. Even with earplugs, my ears ring afterwards at times. After a day of riding (commuting over 100 miles for my job), I actually got on my Vespa GTS for errands after. My ears just needed a break. If I ever get used to it, I know I'm going deaf.
