Where in the bay area to get service?

I live in SF and I am almost at my 30k mark for my 99 900ss.  My bike isn't running very well, besides the 30k service I'm going to need a thorough checkup.

My bike is my only mode of transportation so the closer to SF or Caltain/BART the better.

I really wanted to hit-up Nichols but after I drop my bike off I have no way to get home/back to my bike.  They say $300 (incl. valve adj.) for service, that is an awesome price!

So I call up Monroe thinking hey if Nichols can do it for $300 lets see what they can offer.  I was quoted $800 for a 30K service NOT including belt or valves (if forget what one)!  Um, No.  That is a quarter value of my bike!

I usually take my bike to Desmoto but I really want to try another place out.

So I guess I'm asking; what are my other options for competent Ducati shops in (preferably) or around SF?

thanks!

Hey Jordan.  Basically, you've got it.  Nichols or Desmoto.  If money is an issue, it's worth the PITA to get to Nichols.  Munroe's is a no-go because of the $ and because they're not as good as Desmoto.  If I were willing to chance it, I *might* try Werkstatt, but I don't think they know anything about Ducs.  I dunno if they'll even work on 'em.  Hattar in Marin is going to quote you the same thing as Munroe (but I think they might give you a ride home or pick up the bike or sumptin.)  For $300, I'd find a way to work it with Nichols.  Some of the local DMF gang work near SJ and live in SF, so you might be able to hitch a ride.  Feck, rent an enterprise van and you'll still save $.

The SF local crew might have some other suggestions, but I doubt you'll get much more.  http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=19.0

Yup, post up in the local forum, someone might be able to help you out with a ride.

With the money you save, you could always rent a car from Enterprise to get around while your bike is sitting at Nichols Sportbike Service.

If you only need help getting the bike there and back, this wouldn't be the first time that members of Ducati MOB have helped someone do that.  I'll even volunteer if you want to take BART to/from Pleasanton at the right time of day.

You can take PT all the way to Nichols.  I have done it twice.

Ride to Nichols
Catch the 217 Bus on Milpitas Blvd. to the Fremont BART station   (bus stop is about 100yrds from the shop)
BART -> SF

In total it takes about 2hrs.  It was worth the $400-$500 to me, so I sat there and enjoyed the ride.
