once the kids catch on, next time they bicker and mom says 'knock it off', they'll answer 'i can do whatever i want, or I'll call the cops and tell them you kicked me out of the car.'

knew friends who had a manipulative daughter, and to get out of trouble, she ran to the teacher.  vice principal wanted to make a name for herself, and asked leading questions and then the shit hit the fan.  friends were drunks, child was scared for her life....yeah right!!!! 

kids should be protected.  not used against us.

I am a pediatric nurse and the pussification of America's youth is sooo evident.  It's funny how so many kids are cool when their parents aren't around - I get the kids to help with whatever I am doing, like I'll hook up the syringe and let them flush their own IV's or whatever and they think it's fun and they aren't scared or agitated.  Then mommy shows up who is an absolute spaz/emotional wreck and starts babying their kids and before you know it, the kids are terrified of the nurses because every time someone walks in the room, the parent jumps up and grabs the kid and starts saying, "It's ok, baby.. I'm not gonna let them mean old nurses hurt you or poke needles in you."   

The parents who are calm and not over-protective usually have chill kids with great coping skills.  One of the coolest kids I ever took care of broke his shoulder doing jumps on a dirt bike, by the way.   

At the other end of the spectrum, I was walking down the hallway the other day and a kid who was at least 10 was acting up because he didn't want to leave (from visiting a patient).  He was whiny and I heard him tell his parents, "If you don't let me stay, I'm going to start screaming and cause a scene".  The parents were mortified as the kid launched into a tantrum.  make the beast with two backs that.  I wanted sooo badly to ask them if they wanted me to haul him off to a broom closet and give him a reason to cry.  That kid needed to meet the wooden spoon.

I forwarded the original article to my mother and she thought it was funny.  She always told us that she wanted us to call the cops on her, "it would be a vacation from us little bastards"
