Like a dumbass, i forgot to tighten one of my spring caps, and the thing blew off while the bike was running and took the post with it.

Just want to make sure, its a $150 part, just need to replace the whole hub unit right?

Remove the plates, unlock that bolt, and swap.?

Yup gotta replace the hub.  pull the plates out carefully and stack them in order.  Use an impact gun on that nut for removal if you have access to one.  They can be a bit stubborn.  You can run with only four springs (I too have broken a post off in the past) clutch never slipped on me for the hundreds of miles I ran it with 4 springs but YMMV.  (I broke one post off and took the spring opposite to it off for "balance")
Who insures the FDIC?

Wo, what? You just forgot to tighten 1 and that happened? I've heard of people running with only 4 and having absolutely no problems... Or were you already running with 4?
ErkZ NOT in SLO w/ his '95 m900!
The end is in sight! Gotta buckle down and get to work!

I run all six, i just had 1 that i didnt completely tighten down, and over the course of 400miles today, the bolt slipped and i lost the cap, spring, bolt, and post somewhere on the brooklyn bridge, litterally 10 mins from home. I was lucky that i was only idling at the time and i noticed something hit my ankle pretty hard. Had i been on the highway on the way home, it might of jammed and the engine might have sieized and without anyway to disengage and would result in probably me crashing.  :P got away with this one.

I push the bike to the side and made sure the other 5 were good to go, and they were fine. ill post up pics tomorrow of the carnage, just wanted to sleep easy on the fact that its a simple replace and a lesson learned. ( i had torn my bike apart and that was the only thing that i forgot.  [bang] atleast it wasnt something that might of caused more damage.

Sorry about your hub, but glad to hear that you're OK.

You're looking to sell your 5-spoke Speedymoto clutch cover?

nah, its the kukri gold plate. Apparently speedymoto pressure plates wont work with the desmotimes light weight piece.

however, when the posts snapped it took a piece of the clutch plate with it, it looks like it was dropped on the concrete.

droolling over this thing. Titanium posts that are replaceable.

When I saw your post, I immediatly thought of the moto piece.  Sure it's $60 more than the desmo unit....the desmo unit is a complete failure though being the first time you drop it the chunk is junk.

He Man

i concur, ill run it with 4 springs until paypal sends me one of those 10% off coupons and drop the cashmonies on this baby. that 1lb of rotating mass there will probably free up some hp, i wonder if it will be noticeable.

TAftonomos

Damn....when the hell does PP send 10% off coupons!

He Man

every now and then theyll send me a 10% (up to $100 off) coupon. and it sucks cause 1/2 the time i have nothing i want to buy. :( the code they give you is only good for your email account though..
