engine mount bolt alternatives

I was able to get the motor on the 2000 900 welded at the rear motor mount where it had broken. The frame has been straightened and frame, tank other items are going to paint tomorrow. The rebuild with pics will begin soon.......promise.

One of the things I do have to pick up is a replacement engine mount bolt which was bent. Any suggestions on where to get one. Actually I will probably replace both.

I have the motor mount bolt that goes through the middle section of the motor from a 2005 620.  If you can find out if it fits, it's yours.  If not, I know most frame slider sets come with this middle engine mount bolt.  Assuming we're talking about the same thing? 

You could also check with ducatiomaha.com or some of the other sites that sell OEM parts and probably hunt one down for your bike.  Download the exploded parts diagram and you should be able to find the part number.

Slight thread jack - on one of the numerous cracked case welding threads, someone had what seemed to be a good idea to manufacture and market some sort of a re-inforcing plate that would strengthen the motor mount area and prevent cracking.   I've searched here with no luck, maybe it was on TOB.  Anyone remember this?  It sounds like a very good idea, especially for those of us who can't avoid (or don't want to avoid  ) riding on dirt roads.  Appreciate any leads.  Thanks.

Wow.......those are really expensive!!! I hate to sound like a  cheapskape, but are they that much better than the cheaper options?

That is why I posted links to the other place.  Measure the bolt length and diameter and order from other manufacturers.  Nichols sells for a very high price what others make for much cheaper.  The links I posted were to titanium fasteners that are just as good (argue if you like) and for 1/4 the cost.  Nichols is for those who are a bit too lazy to look elsewhere.

I don't have any Nichols stuff on my bikes and I personally would think several times before paying $200 for motor mount bolts and if I needed some I probably would go somewhere else.  However...I think I have to take exception to your statement above.  Nichols products are very high quality and there is a difference.  The decision to pay that premium for a better product has nothing to do with laziness and a lot more to do with how much you care about your bike and also how many mouths you have to feed.  Nichols  also runs a first class service shop and their shop prices are less than dealer rates for better work than most dealers put out.  I would think that if they were trying to overcharge, they'd also be overcharging for service work.    (off of soapbox )

Well I put in the (argue if you like) statement b/c I knew there would be those who disagree but let me ask you this.  Do you think that the Nichols titanium is somehow superior to other titanium bolts?  I do not.  My reference was to the bolts and not all of their products.  I personally feel that they are severely overcharging for the bolts and that is what prompted my response.

I think Nichols bolts are made from some kind of SS alloy. Not too many people here are cheaper than I am, but I still use the Nichols.
