How far are you from mid-ohio?

If my broke, college student ass can afford trackdays, I'm sure you can too. Trust me, I slowed down considerably on the street after my first few trackdays.

As for them being expensive? look into something called cornerworking. Basically what it consists of is working a half day in corner (basically just standing around and waving flags). After doing doing that, track organizations usually let you ride the rest of the day for free. That's basically how I've done all of my track days  [moto] [thumbsup]

Good luck with the tickets, I came from a country where there is basically no law governing traffic, so when I moved here, I had to pay almost 2k in tickets before I wizened the make the beast with two backs up.

About 40 minutes away.   I will look into "corner working".  Good idea.

I best wizen up now   :-\

Honda Grom 2015 ~ 3500miles so far.  Love this lil bike

Shit dude, if I was that close I would sell my house and go live in a shack next to it. It is a beautiful freaking track

If all the ticket talk is true, your license will probably be history.  I got a speeding ticket in my truck about 2 months ago, HWYs 33 and 166 in Central CA, and the fine was $237.  I can get traffic school, in this county it's 18 months between tickets to allow for traffic school.    I used to average about 2 tickets a year, for about 20 years, then I quit street bikes for a while and rode dirt only, didn't get a ticket for 4 or 5 years.   Then went back to street bikes again and got the felony ticket, $1600 fine, 180 days, lawyer fees, just all around a crappy deal.   I've since slowed down quite a bit on the street.  It's just not worth it.  I have a house now, insurance really sucks, and I don't need it going up.   2 kids in college.  Just all kinds of things that I can't just blow off by going to jail or losing my license.  I still ride kind of like an idiot, but I keep the speeds down.  One of the reasons I bought a Ducati, don't need a 180 mph bike.

I wonder what would happen if I were ticketed again today?

I just had a nightmare    [puke]

Have you read The Pace?  Always ride The Pace.  There are not points for straightline speed or for speeding through inhabited areas.

And get your ass to the track.  There's not a single thing you can do on the street that you can't do a billion times faster on the track.  And you get to do it each and every lap.  And without cops.
Spidey , tell me something if you will .

Let's say you are ridinging alone through an area of open land that goes on for miles and then you ride into an area of woodlands all on nice two lane blacktop.

You have ridden for an hour and seen not more than a handful of vehicles.

You are now in prime twisty country and still only a vehicle about 1 every couple of miles .

With your skill level what speed are you going to ride in all honestty in relation to the speed limit through these areas.

I forgot to mention ,you are geared up like you would be if you were at the track.            Dolph     :)

being geared up in your suit and pucks has no relation at all to riding the pace...

besides, riding hard enough to get your knee down on the street is... kind of anti-pace, innit?

My understanding of " Pace " is a speed that you are comfortable with pursuant to your skill.       Dolph

Twisties or the straights?  Twisties, I'm gonna ride whatever pace I want, but it will surely be above the speed limit (unless it's a habitated area, which is unusual for twisties-- then it totally depends).  The straights?  I'm probably gonna go about the speed limit or just a bit over.  There's an off-chance I'll have a quick burst to 120 or so (just cuz), but only for a coupla seconds.  I use the straightaways as time to look around and think and avoid getting a ticket where I don't need to.

But that's not really the point of The Pace.  It's about riding style more than speed.

That said, I suggested that the OP read The Pace because trying to ride The Pace is a good way of deciding when it's worth speeding and when it's not.  The Pace suggests that the a ton of fun can and should be had on the street without using blinding speed or hard, hard braking.  If you ride The Pace, you're no likely to get a ticket for doing triples digits in a straight line.  Cuz there's little fun to be had doing 100 on a straight.  On the street, there's not as much fun as you'd (or maybe just me) like in doing 80 into a corner, braking down to 35 and then taking the corner (that might be fun on a track though).  OTOH, there's a ton of fun in approaching the same corner at 50mph, not braking at all and then just carying that speed throughout.  Few poeople actually ride The Pace, but it's really fun to try to do it all the time.

I currently try to ride a speed I'm comfortable with and that doesn't necessarily mean 120 on the straights but it might mean 80 -100 most of the time .

I stay out of inhabited areas. Farmland or Forest.Take it easy coming up to hilltops and anywhere that I have a long unobstructed view of the road ahead it's time to quicken the Pace.

I try and not use my brakes in the twisties , just accelerate then roll off the throttle a bit as I approach a curve and then roll hard on the throttle as I get to the apex of the curve.

4 lanes,  it's the speed limit , hard as it is without cruise control.   Dolph    :)

As a friend recently said, their motto went from "to protect and serve" to "to ticket motorists and generate revenue."

To bad its been this way for awhile now :(  Just got my license back from losing it for to many speeding tickets.  They were all in my car except one though.  Duno how I'm being unsafe when I'm on a deserted highway in the middle of the night with tires rated way faster then my car can go, but what ever.

All I can say is good luck my friend.  Not being able to ride for 6 months is hell!

As someone who lives in the twisties, I appreciate this.  I have to walk my dogs in the street and on a weekend with nice weather it's like walking on a hot track.
