I'm not familiar with the reference. Quick google search pops up a movie I never watched.  cheeky But no, we did drag around a dead Roger Hayden.  laughingdp

After 10 months (!), I have the tank from my '01 Monster back after finally finding someone* to weld it in the hinge area. He said it was tricky because the actual leak was under the plate that appears to be tacked to the tank over the hinge. It looks a little rough and I will probably end up doing some filing or light grinding.  He put a coat of clear coat on it to protect the metal, but I will probably go for a re-painting in the winter.

This weekend will be reassembly and testing. It's been so long since I broke it down, I hope I remember what connects to where.

It's been a tough year as far as getting some riding in, what with the vapor lock that afflicted the '97 in ABQ in the June heat. I will be back out west for 3 weeks at the end of Sept., and I looking forward to seeing you all and riding. Still considering riding the '01 from NY to ABQ to leave it there.

*To complete my whining, I took the tank off last Sept & left it with the local dealer, a guy who's always done good work. As of March, he had not gotten it welded. So, I took it back. I ended up taking it to the mechanic who takes care of the outboard marine engine from my old sailboat.

Who has a parts washer I might use for a couple of hours?  I need to clean up a bunch of Monza parts!

Last sunday we met a group who are traveling across country to ride the coolest places and do cool stuff on bikes....then post video to a show for motorcycle.com.  Their project is called "Escape the Apple", as in New York...the Big Apple.  In their latest episode there is a short clip of Wayne and his little boy playing on Karl's Panigale!

The guys from "Escape the Apple" said they use the heck out of these:  http://www.uclear-digital.com/HBC200force.php

Fits pretty much any lid.  Line of sight communications, and they relay from unit to unit so the folks in the front can speak to those farther behind as long as everyone can see at least one other rider (and maybe "not quite see them" according to the NY guys).  Just over $200 per unit (list is $249).  I'll see about becoming a dealer or getting a group deal if anyone else is interested in bike to bike coms.  They're also Bluetooth enabled, so you can use them to listen to music, take phone calls (via voice command), and pick up a radar detector warning (as long as your detector transmits with Bluetooth) without any wires attached to your lid.

Any takers?

So, you all rode into the mountains, I went to the shore. Took my daughter and grandchildren to Florida for a week so they could go to the beach.

There is probably no greater difference between two places in this country than Ouray and Sanibel.

It sounds like it was a fabulous DITR. Glad everyone made it back safely.

See you in September.

While you were all blasting through Crest this weekend, I  drool a bit and headed out to explore risks in the abundant water. Bit of fun...especially falling into murky salt water trying paddle board, being bitten by fishes and losing my favorite glasses trying to get back on a 80lb kayak knowing no swimming (had a life jacket). laughingdp waytogo

Pretty pictures, Joel....though that sucks about your glasses.  Watch out for alligators, too.  Smiley
