Saw this today on the Kneeslider.  Haven't seen it anywhere else yet.

Manufacturer: Ducati North America
Model Year: 2009
Models affected: Monster 696
NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V142000
Potential Units Affected: 1755
Problem: Ducati is recalling 1,755 model year 2009 Monster 696 motorcycles. The main wiring harness may come in contact with the vertical cylinder head and exhaust pipe possibly resulting in damage to the motorcycle and a potential hazard to the rider. Any damage to the harness may lead to loss of functionality of the motorcycle's lighting system or an unexpected loss of engine performance, and thereby increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Action: Dealers will check for interference between the main wiring harness and the vertical cylinder head and exhaust pipe. Dealers will reposition and fasten the main wiring harness to the frame free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during May 2009. Owners may contact Ducati at 800-231-6696.

had mine done a couple weeks ago.  Dealer called me.  That day there were a bunch of 696s there.  Took 15ish minutes... quick.

Funny this should happen. I kept having the fuse for my headlights blow out a while ago. After the 3rd time, I insisted on, and received a new harness. No problems since.

interesting 1755 monsters. wonder if that's the first production run. then they found the problem. wish they would publish the vin range.

mines in the shop right now for this very problem.

My speed sensor was touching my exhaust, melting... still works.  Gets replaced this weekend.   I wouldn't be surprised to see this recalled in the near future.

The last 5 numbers on the VIN of my '09 696 is above 11020 which the report the recall goes up to.

So then I should have nothing to worry about?

I just had it at the dealer for my first service and they didn't say anything about a recall unless they didn't know at the time.

I wonder if this has anything to do with my dead battery.  BTW, was replaced with no hassles.

Yup, my gf's 696 just had that done the other week.
Hadn't even received a letter in the mail as of yet. Bike was in for an oil leak on the left engine case, and they told me there was another recall to take care of while they were at it.

BC.

How does Ducati handle recalls?  Do they have to go back to the dealer who sold the bike or can they go to any dealer?
