stupid math question bothering me

Way back in the day someone showed me a quick way of getting the complex values of a quadratic eqatution using the sum and product of the roots.

Does anyone know it? i cannot for the life of me find it on line. I know how to find the sum and product of the roots, jst no idea how to relate it to a quadratic.

heres a quadratic with complex roots so you dont have to find one.... PM me or post up if u know the trick.

Don't you just use the quadratic equation to solve?

you can, but using quadratic is a lengthy process. compared to the short cut.

its someting like

r1-r2 = -b/a, and r1 x r2 = something that relates to -b/a so you're complex root is ____.

Man... just google it and use one of the solvers... that makes it really easy.

put into TI-89, it will tell you all the roots, graph it, and make toast.

I never did like Algebra or Trig. 

It might have been something learned in Geometry but for me all the stuff was like Greek and I swore I'd never do anything that required the use of such knowledge , so it was all purged from my brain to make room for more interesting stuff.
