Hey guys,

In my occasional commutes lately, I've been finding that the width of my stock handlebars, has been preventing me from filtering through to the front of the traffic light cue with considerable frequency.

Do clip-ons reduce the total width of the bike? And what is required to have clip-ons, just the individual handlebars, or do you need other bits to hold them on?

Cheers,

depends on the individual set you use. however, most clip ons are swept back a little, so all things being equal they should be a bit narrower.

as far as what you need...depends on what you have now (bike model and brake set up)
if you have the coffin style reservoirs, you might need spacers, while the pee cup style tends to fit without issue.

another consideration is the mounting position of the clip ons. most are designed to mount below the top triple, making for a much more aggressive riding position. some are available with risers, some not.

I have the Motowheels clip-on's with the 1.5'' raise on my monster.
I actually cut 3/4'' off each side to get them tighter into the bike to help with my side view mirror dodging.
Chicago traffic blows, and their is nothing better than cruising down the bicycle lane and not worrying about getting hungup on someone's mirror  waytogo
