Shutter in first gear at take off.

Gee's one thing after another. The bike is shuttering at take off, only take off. Wonder if it's related to my little clutch drum episode?

Side note: I decided I'm selling the bike and buying a new 848=warranty. Mainly due to me traveling interstates frequently. I'm not a touring kinda guy, and a Monster beats the hell out of me. Figured the 848 would be a little more aerodynamic

Ever thought about a sport-touring bike?
Sold: 2007 S2R1000 for canyon carving and commuting - DP ECU, PCIII, BMC air filter with open box, Zard full exhaust, Race-tech fork internals, Ohlins steering damper, and a Penske 8987 triple clicker

2000 996XU (extra ugly) for track days - BST carbon wheels, Ohlins shock, reworked fork, FBF exhaust, and a bunch of megacycle rocker arms. The rest of it is junk - Hey, I'm just happy that it runs...

more aerodynamic but more uncomfortable on long rides. you should look at a MS or even an old ST or wait a year for the MS replacement they've been rumoring about.

the shudder might be due to dirt build up in/on the dry clutch, if you have it opened up.
If you drive the nicest car in the neighborhood, work in a cash business, and don't pay taxes, you're either a preacher or a drug dealer...

It could be worn plates.  Take them out, clean them off (i used a brillo pad), shuffle and install.  I believe there are one or two convex steel plates that go in first.  Keep track of the last two that came out and confirm they are not flat.

i have encountered the "shudder" from my dry clutch. in my case anyway, it has nothing to do with worn plates. they just need a good cleaning.

How many miles are on it?  I've run an open clutch for nearly 36000 miles with no problems.

Could also be a worn basket.

My old S4's basket had notches so bad on the tangs that it was getting a bad shudder on clutch engagement at less than 15,000 miles.

I hammered on mine a little harder than Pompetta does though.   ;D

forgot to mention I can feel the shudder in the lever, not sure if that's relevant.

i also experienced this. cleaning the clutch pack made it go away [thumbsup]
