From BMW's website:

Dry weight of 404 lb. 450lb wet with full tank, 455.3 wet with full tank and ABS

So, the 1098R has a better power to weight ratio...but not by much, and it is rumored to be $14K vs $40K of the 1098R.

The D16RR surely stomps it, as it should be way lighter. It's $72K though.

I don't think the 1098R is 75k.

A 1098R generally runs @ $40k apiece.  Still much more $$ than BMW is asking for the S1000RR.

As far as the weight question, I can't locate a 'wet' weight for a 1098R, but a good benchmark would be the Honda CBR1000RR ABS which weighs 462 lbs wet.

I'm sure it's a great bike...or will be shortly...but it's fugly.  :-\

It's getting beat handily in WSBK right now, with very capable riders. The also brand new Aprilia is much more competitive. This probably won't last, but time will tell.

from what i've heard, the priller has been under development for much, much longer than the bmw.

The 1098R is 364 lbs dry.   BMW is quoting the S1000RR at 455 lbs wet.

Well, what is the 1098R wet?

The 1098R is 412 wet with 180hp. The BMW is 455 wet with 193. Power to weight for the Duc is 2.28 lbs per hp, the BMW is 2.35 lbs per hp...

The D16 is no lightweight in customer trim.

There was one on the scales at NHMS...

over 470 lbs...damp

The Duc vs Beemer question is about nothing but bragging rights - they all make way too much power for me to ever use.

But as far as that vaunted German reliability, Beck, it just hasn't been the case in recent years, for bikes or cars.

i'll talk a crossplane crank R1 over one of these.  better tech and cheaper.  and sounds more like a motogp bike.

+1

Actually, I'd get the CBR1000RR since I think it looks the best of all the non-Ducs...and is very close to the 1098 in looks. Any of them have way too much power for me to use, and handle great.

That Nice Guy Beck!

who am I kidding I should just buy a vespa and start a VMF board

nah.   Take a track course with your bike while you still have such a great trackbike.   I guarantee it will be more fun than you had with your car...and I know you loved that.   This will be better.  truuuust us.
