Wired has a nice write up on the new BMW S 1000 RR. The video is kind of cool too.

Some telling statistics:
BMW S 1000 RR: 193 horsepower, 455 pounds.
Yamaha R1: 180 hp, 454 pounds.
Ducati 1098 R:  180 hp, 364 pounds  [thumbsup]

it makes my heart go bumpety bump.

i freakin' LOVE the looks.  even the mismatched headlights.  the turnsignals dosn low on the fairings.  the black grippy stuff instead of paint everywhere.  first stock exhaust i'd leave on.  rear taillight blew my mind.

doesn't look like a bmw.  it's not ugly.  doesn't look 'functional'.

it's hot!!

Frickin' snow!

How? It says it has similar power to weight ratio as the 1098R which has 20hp LESS than the D16...

Looks like a cool alternative for those who like screaming motors in their sportbikes.   I still prefer thundering ones and to me the motor is such a dominant factor in what a bike is like to ride.     stat sheets do nothing for me.

Nice to see bmw branching out though and I hope their wsb team continues after one season.
It's still buy a flounder a drink month

The 1098R is 364 lbs dry.   BMW is quoting the S1000RR at 455 lbs wet.

It's getting beat handily in WSBK right now, with very capable riders. The also brand new Aprilia is much more competitive. This probably won't last, but time will tell.

75,000 - 14,000 = $61,000 left over
bike has traction control and more horsepower and the germans made it so it wont break

I don't think the 1098R is 75k.
