I'm bored with my 696

I should have listened to that demonic inner voice for once and waited for the 1100, I feel like I'm already used to the power and am needing more. I don't want to throw any more money at it, but I'm dieing to do some major mods/upgrades.  My fat ass and riding with sportbike riders doesn't help any.
I'm paying off a major improvement to my house and realistically won't be able to up grade for another year  :'(  (I will try to work an angle tho).
With my 696 now on craigslist I'm starting to think if I should step up to a streetfighter [evil]. My next bike will definitely by my long time keeper and will throw lots of money at it.

Sorry, I had to vent. Especially after reading posts from happy 1100 owners

Have you done a track day or some advanced rider training?

You may find that your bike is more than you thought it was.  ;)

What do I know anyway.  ???  I ride like a wuss.  :-\

Take to the track and see how you feel..
Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

I think you have to be quite a pro to take all the power 696 has to give, apart from the straight line acceleration of course.

But if you are cornering full throttle and it feel a little too slow then obviously it's time for an upgrade  ;D

My demonic inner voice is happy with my 696 as long as it can talk my credit card into keep paying out for more pornographic bling..... What you gonna do when you're also bored with your M1100?  Just remember.... it never ends.... the demons always want more....  they're never content for long....  egos are evil......lol.

You know the 696 isnt the most powerful thing on two wheels, but mine keeps up with anything in the twisties.... and that's where the fun is at IMO.  I soooo enjoy the perverse pleasure of annoying bigger, more powerful moto riders by being right there on their tail  [laugh]

I though I needed more power when I had my 03 M800....so I got a 08 s2r1000. It was the biggest mistake I have ever made with bikes. Yea the 1000 had awesome power, but there is something about how a smaller bike rides, handels, and the power delivery is so smooth. I would of traded my 1000 even to get my 800 back. There was a huge difference in my 800 stock, and my 800 with FBF pipes, open airbox, PCIII  with a cutom map. It may benefit you to at least ride a 696 modded before you bite the bullet and trade up or sell at a loss. I am looking right now and am thinking of a 620. (If I cannot find a red 900 modded with low miles!!!!!!)

its been said before....

its more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow.

Super your not a wuss you just need to come for a ride!
But he is right though, you find that on the track you unlock parts of the bike you never knew were there.  [evil]

I was bored of my 696 too... traded it in at the dealer, gave me 7,515 for it.  It was cherry, some parts painted, no exhaust or anything at 10,3xx miles.

Bought a triumph speed triple.  Brilliant bike, not as well finished as Ducati, but handling is very good (not as good as the 1100, but nothing that will prevent me from doing what I want to do) and power is awesome.
Life's too short to be taken seriously.

if you are riding down the interstate with some guys on liter bikes, it's boring to begin with. Might as well buy an old muscle car convertible and wail on its gas pedal.

perhaps find a curvier rode, the 1100 won't help you do that.

Otherwise, wait for some hi-comp pistons, cams, big bore kits to come out. open the airbox, change the ecu, and give it a good full system in the meantime.

There will always be riders who can squeeze more potential out of any machine.  So, by that token all of you should be on Briggs & Stratton mini bikes until you are the best riders in the world.

The 1100 has better suspension so if the rider is halfway decent he will be faster in the twisties.  The 1100 has more power so there will be less shifting allowing the rider to concentrate more on cornering rather than keeping the engine in the powerband.

There are lots of ways that a more capable bike can be more fun or more beneficial to even a non-profesional rider.

Wait, does the 1100 have better suspension too? I knew the 1100S did, but I was under the assumption that the 1100 and the 696 shared the same suspenders.

Do you live in flatlands or twisty country?

You don't have to even remotely tap into the potential of a 696 to have the thought "I wonder what it would be like to have 30 or 50 or 70 more hp?".  I get that.  It's why literbikes and 400+ hp cars are so much fun.  There's almost no way to properly tap into all that power, but it's pretty fun to try.   ;D  Neck-snapping, straight line speed is its own form of adrenaline.  If your riding buddies have that and you don't, I can understand how you'd want "more."

That said, if you're actually bored with your 696, then you're doing it wrong.  Terribly wrong.  Start saving up.  Don't use that $ for a downpayment on an 1100.  Go to a track day.  You won't be bored with your bike.  I *promise*.
