1994 M900, in red, of course...

« on: May 17, 2008, 10:57:25 PM »

I went to the AMA race here at Infineon Raceway in lovely Sonoma County, California.  The Honda crew was in full effect and they were having an autograph session with Miguel Duhammel and Neil Hodgson.  I have been a HUGE fan of #100 since I first laid eyes on this handsome Brit several years ago.  He left Ducati to ride for Honda fairly recently in his career, but hey, Honda uses red and white colors in their logo and if you squint your eyes you really can't tell it from Ducati.   cheeky

So I'm standing in line with my fiance', pink t-shirt and permanent marker in hand...I'm practicing what I'm going to say, blushing a little bit, giggling too much...and he says, "I've never seen you starstruck before."   laughingdp  I guess I never have been.  I haven't met all that many "famous people" and never one that I really respected.  What's more, the guy is charming, well-spoken, and has a great sense of humor.  He's even better looking in person than in photos!  I'm totally infatuated now.

I got through my brief conversation with him without doing anything hugely embarrassing.  M'boy can't stop making fun of me.  He keeps doing these goofy impressions for all of our friends of what I was like waiting for my autograph.  On the way home I wore my newly signed shirt and I fell asleep with a big grin on my face in the front seat of the car.  The fiance' says that I'm like a kid at Christmas wearing my "new toy" and being all worn out after playing with it.   laughingdp

Dear god, woman.  I thought anyone with a vagina and a penchant for Ducatis had the image of this tasty bit of man-flesh burned into their brains.   Grin

Behold... Neil #100.  2003 WSBK world champion.

She could have been standing right next to him and I wouldn't have noticed... <drool>   laughingdp

What's really bad is that Miguel Duhammel, a racing legend, was sitting right beside him at the table.  I had this fairly long conversation with Neil and then moved over to Miguel and simply said, "Hi," and moved on.  He politely handed me a signed poster.  I could tell from his body language that he was a bit offended.  I instantly recognized my faux pas but there wasn't anything I could do without seeming really obvious about it.

This is what Miguel looks like.  He and Neil were like me sitting next to Gisele Bundchen and expecting anyone to give me a glance...

i met #100 a couple years ago, and got his autograph too...

the four people in front of me were all named mike, and he made a comment about it.
my turn for autograph, he looks up and says, "finally a female in line.... what's your name?"
i said "mike"

he laughed pretty hard  laughingdp waytogo

got my poster with my real name on it too  Smiley

I can't help but think that Hodgeson bears a resemblance to a certain local striped racer.

Duhamel is a true warrior.  He will persevere and fight with out much notice or attention given to trivialities of "the public".  I'm sure a little admiration would have been well received though.

Then I'll offer a distraction to diffuse the situation:
I'm a fan of Xaus and Elias for racer eyecandy myself.  No shirt signing though; I just got a home photo of Xaus in his underwear.   Mmmmmmmm.....
